The Crew won't release on PS3 and Wii U due to different "technical infrastructure"

Xbox 360 more similar to new consoles, Ubisoft says.

Ubisoft has offered its reasoning for why there will be an Xbox 360 port of its open world racer The Crew but no version for PlayStation 3 or Wii U.

It's due to the fact that the Xbox 360's hardware is more similar to that of its successor, Ubisoft said, which made it an easier choice of platform to port to.

"The Crew is originally built for the new generation of consoles so when we made the decision to port it to the previous generation of consoles, we decided to focus solely on the platform closest to the new-gen's technical infrastructure, which is the Xbox 360," a Ubisoft spokesperson told Eurogamer.

"We are not currently working on a PS3 or Wii U version, we are rather focused on delivering The Crew for Xbox One, PS4, PC and Xbox360 simultaneously on November 11th."

The Crew was announced at E3 2013 as a PC, PS4 and Xbox One title. It was only this week at Gamescom that the existence of an Xbox 360 port was revealed.

"What makes The Crew truly unique is the way it hooks exploration, advancement and the car you're driving together," Oli wrote in Eurogamer's recent The Crew preview. "It's intoxicating stuff, but it's difficult to understand its power without playing it."
