Wii U system update lets you transfer data between consoles

Wii Remote and controller support added to eShop.

Nintendo has just pushed live Wii U system software update 5.1.0 U, which adds the ability to transfer data between Wii U consoles.

Similar to 3DS, it means that users will be able to move their games, apps, settings and save files from one console to another. Once transferred, the source machine will then be formatted, Nintendo has detailed.

Other changes include (finally) support for more than just the Wii U GamePad in the system's eShop. You can now also use the Wii Remote, Wii U Pro Controller or Classic Controller.

And that's it for Europe and North America, although Japanese users also get the ability to add funds to their eShop wallet via Suica - contactless smart cards used to pay for train fares (think Oyster). The feature allows you to simply swipe your Suica card across the GamePad's built-in NFC reader for an easy way to add funds.
