Bird dating sim Hatoful Boyfriend is getting an English remake

Be the only girl/human in an all boys/pigeon school.

For whatever reason dating sims never really caught on in the west. Perhaps they were too slow paced, pandering, or lacking in action. Or maybe the problem was that they generally starred humans. What if they starred birds? Or, better yet, a human girl dating male birds? That's just printing gold, right?

Well that game came out in Japan in 2011 and it was called Hatoful Boyfriend. It starred the only human girl at an all boys school that just so happens to also be an academy devoted entirely to pigeons.

Now, Hotline Miami and Shadow Warrior publisher Devolver Digital is teaming up with developer Mediatonic (Amateur Surgeon, Robot Unicorn Attack: Evolution) to remake the bewildering/amazing cross-species dating sim for PC and Mac.

No clucking way!

Hatoful Boyfriend gained such notoriety that an English language patch was released, and it even spawned a sequel in its native land called Hatoful Boyfriend HolidayStar. This too received an English translation on Christmas 2012.

"Our research proves it. The players are tired of Space Marine and Dragons. New and original, that's what they expect," said Devolver Digtal CFO Fork Parker. "A couple semi realistic simulation appointment is undoubtedly the next frontier that video games must pass."

If you'd like to experience this madness for yourself, there's a demo of the original game available on its official site Or watch it's opening scenes in a Let's Play video below.
