Speedrun event raises $1m for cancer charity

Watch four Super Metroid masters race each other to the finish.

Some of the world's top speedrunners gathered together last week to complete 155 games in record-breaking times - all in the name of charity.

The Awesome Games Done Quick 2014 event generated $1,013,831 (£614,592) for the Prevent Cancer Foundation and saw blisteringly fast completions for games such as Portal, Mario 64, Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Skyrim (the latter of which was bested in under an hour).

One of the most entertaining runs involved four of the world's best Super Metroid speedrunners in one room all playing against each other. The nail-biting finish saw two players finish less than a second apart, and alone earned around $70,000.

Skip forward to the 7 hours 51 minutes mark on the video below to see the start of the Super Metroid run. The end section begins at around 8 hours 30 minutes - just 40 minutes later.
