DICE looking into Kinect head tracking for Xbox One Battlefield 4

Peek and lean.

DICE is looking into adding Kinect features to the Xbox One version of shooter Battlefield 4.

In an interview with Xbox Wire, Battlefield executive producer Patrick Bach said the Swedish developer was investigating Kinect features that "enhance controls", such as head tracking.

"Through SmartGlass, Xbox players will be able to view the overhead map during multiplayer matches and take advantage of the second screen," he said.

"Also, with Kinect, we're looking into features that enhance the controls including peeking and leaning and tracking head movement as well as incorporating voice commands."

While DICE is yet to confirm that Battlefield 4 will support Kinect features at launch, Bach's comments are the strongest indication yet that the game will utilise the camera, which comes bundled with Xbox One, at some point.

At E3 in June DICE general manager Karl Magnus Troedsson told Game Informer that the developer had "a pretty pragmatic view" on Kinect motion controls.

"You need to have very precise control over what's going on, and trying to do something like that with motion control input does not make sense - not if you want to keep the same kind of formula of the game as we [have] now. You'd need to build a different kind of shooter.

"But there are other places where it will make sense, and we are going to use it for other things in the game, but we haven't announced exactly what."

At the time the comments were made voice commands seemed the obvious choice.
