Monolith Soft's Wii U game is out in 2014

X marks the large-scale open world.

During today's Nintendo Direct live stream conference, Satoru Iwata revealed that Monolith Soft's new Wii U RPG will be out in 2014.

Iwata didn't give the game a title, although it was heralded with a giant red letter X on the screen. Of course, it comes from Tetsuya Takahashi of Xenogears fame, and follows the well received Xenoblade Chronicles on Wii.

Iwata did mention that Monolith's aim for the game was to create a large-scale open world for players to explore seamlessly, and that you would be able to ride and even fly in the game's handsome-looking mechs.

Check out the trailer with gameplay footage below, and look out for more from the show.
