Square Enix has cryptically revealed a mysterious upcoming title called Murdered: Soul Suspect for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
The title was announced via an alternate reality game. Square Enix covertly sent out e-mails with the subject "What is the hardest case to solve?" The following image was included.
Tellingly, the reply-to e-mail was listed as firstname.lastname@example.org. Going to Murdered.com revealed the following chalk-scrawled bell logo with platforms logos below revealing that this game will be coming to PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
The site also contained a link to a Twitter account, which posted the following two images. The URLs contained "cdn.sqexeu.com," suggesting Square Enix of Europe's presence.
When combined with the one in the initial e-mail, this image was formed.
Eventually Square Enix sent confirmation to VG247 that said, "Murdered: Soul Suspect is an exciting new game from Square Enix which challenges players to solve possibly the hardest case of all."
The report said that the game would be coming this year, but we have yet to confirm that and are chasing Squre Enix down for confirmation.
Little is known about the game, but the official site lead to this first piece of "evidence" upon entering the password "Ronan" (the name in the e-mail, remember?).
The description for this image read:
"O'Connor, male, mid- 30s, 170lbs, 5' 11"
"Detectives aren't supposed to get bloody knuckles, but I've done a lot of things I wasn't supposed to do. I lived through it all, the beat-downs, the back-stabbing, disrespect most people wouldn't see in ten lifetimes and I never lost a fight... until now."
Finally, internet sleuth Superannuation thinks that this may be Quantum Conundrum developer Airtight Games' next project. A senior artist at Airtight listed an "unannounced AAA title" for PS3, Xbox 360, and PC for Square Enix on his resume. Superannuation later tweeted that the unannounced Square Enix game was apparently "some horror thing with ghost protagonists and solving murders or something." Today Superannuation speculated on Twitter that this would in fact be Airtight Games' ghost detective game.
