American McGee's Akaneiro: Demon Hunters squeaks past its Kickstarter goal

Adds co-op, crafting, and mobile ports.

American McGee's upcoming action RPG Akaneiro: Demon Hunters reached its Kickstarter goal of $200,000 over the weekend. It didn't win by much though as the final tally came to $204,680.

The Akaneiro Kicktarter was unusual in that it was for a free-to-play game that was already in beta (or rather would go into open beta a week into the Kickstarter campaign). People must have liked it enough to want to pay more money on something they could already play for free.

The extra funds will allow developer Spicy Horse to fulfill its original ambition for the game and add features such as co-op, crafting, Linux support, and mobile versions.

Spicy Horse CEO American McGee noted that while Spicy Horse fell short of its $233,000 stretch goal for an Ouya version, he's still considering pursuing that anyway. "While we didn't make our stretch goal, we heard the 'don't forget us!' from Ouya supporters loud and clear," said McGee. "Over the coming weeks, we'll be taking a look at what it takes to implement these features and get them out in a timely manner. We've also still got contributions coming in on the Paypal page, which may influence which features wind up where on the plan."

He also noted that fans wanted the studio to prioritise co-op and crafting. "During the Kickstarter, we asked the players what they wanted and they decided: They want co-op and crafting now and Linux and tablet (iOS/Android) support as soon as possible."

Akaneiro: Demon Hunters" is already available to play on PC, Mac or in your browser at http://www.angry-red.com/.
