The Binding of Isaac creator Edmund McMillen has updated his blog with loads of new info about the upcoming console version of his religious-themed horror roguelike.
Most importantly he confirmed that publisher Nicalis is already working on the PS3, Vita and PC versions of The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth. He also noted that Nicalis is currently in talks with Microsoft and Nintendo. "We are also looking into an iOS version if its not garbage," he added.
McMillen, who will serve as lead designer on the project, said that the remake's second expansion will be approximately the size of The Wrath of the Lamb DLC and will feature a new final chapter, ending, two new playable characters, and lots of new items, rooms, enemies and bosses. "The goal will be to make replaying the whole game not only worth it but also make it so it feels very fresh and new."
As previously revealed, Rebirth will feature two-player co-op, but this will be local only. "No online play because that will just extend the release by another forever," McMillen explained.
Regarding the 16-bit makeover, McMillen said, "I'm doing this because I think the art is tired and I'm sick of looking at it. I think a fresh coat of paint is needed and I think it's kinda appropriate/funny to do a demake for the remake."
There will also be new music by Danny Baranowsky, including remixes of old tunes.
Rebirth is set to go into full time development after New Years. McMillen and Nicalis are aiming to get it out by the end of 2013, and McMillen said he will try to create a pre-order discount to those who have already purchased the game on PC.
