Brink dev Splash Damage announces iPhone and iPad game Rad Soldiers

Confirms work on "triple-A PC exclusive" and a console game.

Brink developer Splash Damage has announced its next game: Rad Soldiers.

It's a free turn-based multiplayer strategy game for smartphones and tablets due out exclusively on iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch in June.

Rad Soldiers is set in London, where teams of mercenaries fight for control. You create a unique squad of collectible mercs, customise weapons, outfits and abilities and battle either against the AI or online against your friends. The debut trailer is below.

"Turn-based combat means there's no rush, allowing you to ponder your next move at your leisure, and giving you ample time to unleash your inner tactical genius," said game director Richard Jolly. "And you'll earn valuable experience for your soldiers whenever you play, levelling up your squad commander to unlock new abilities."

Splash Damage boss Paul Wedgewood added: "You'll also earn coins while you play and use them to unlock brand new soldiers, customization options and equipment in the ever expanding in-game store, and use Game Center and Facebook to connect with friends and make new ones."

The developer plans to release updates, including new maps, soldiers, weapons and abilities post launch - indeed they're already in development. In addition, Splash Damage has set up a new British publisher, called WarChest, to focus on free, digitally distributed games. Rad Soldiers is its first.

That's not all going on at Splash Damage. The London-based developer confirmed to Eurogamer it will continue to create games for other publishers, and that a number of additional games are in development. One of these is a "triple-A PC exclusive", and another is "planned for consoles".
