Leaked Mass Effect 3 DLC reveals race of secret squad member

Obvious spoiler within.

The Mass Effect 3 From Ashes DLC was accidentally, and briefly, sold on Xbox Live Marketplace.

From Ashes contains an extra squad member. Spoiler below.

reveal

The secret squad member's race is...

The DLC is bundled (for free) with the N7 Collector's Edition and PC Digital Deluxe Edition.

The extra squad member is a Prothean - the race referred to as Collectors for most of the second Mass Effect game.

The From Ashes Xbox Live Marketplace page has now vanished.

Those who saw the content before it disappeared said it measured 628.18MB and cost 800 Microsoft Points.

BioWare associate producer Michael Gamble later confirmed on the company's forum that From Ashes will be available to buy at launch on all platforms. Let's hope the Prothean squad member is more deeply integrated than Mass Effect 2's DLC character Zaeed Massani, whose conversations were largely non-interactive.

  • bratsampson #4 3 months ago

And again we see day 1 DLC/'Deluxe Editions' AKA we made 100% of the game but to get more than 90% will cost you extra, your call.

I'm seeing a pattern here, Mass Effect 4 Reaper squad mate.

By the time this game releases, they'll have run out of things to leak, and will be leaking Mass Effect 4 details...
  • Inmediasress #9 3 months ago

What is leaking is the creativity... very seriously.
  • DyneVyse #10 3 months ago

I knew about this before this leak....

Heard about this a month or so ago. I think it was in a leaked artbook which also showed sexy robot EDI as a party member.

I read this spoiler on another website that was a lot less prudent about the spoilerific nature of the DLC. Basically ruined a very great reveal of the game.

NOW HULK MAD AND WANT SMASH.
  • StueyBoy16 #15 3 months ago

So disappointed, I was really hoping for an Elcor squad member.
  • Skyclad #16 3 months ago

    Excited: Sounds promising.
Frowning: Collectors are not the same as Protheans unless humans and husks are the same, too.
    Angry: Please!
  • Das_Ginge #17 3 months ago

It sounds a little like what they did with Shale from Dragon Age. So hopefully the character will be full voiced and integrated.

Howerver they seem to have moved the "purchase" away from being a reward for buying a new copy of the game to shafting everyone who hasnt ordered the collectors edition. which frankly is a bit of a dick move.

Let's hope the Prothean squad member is more deeply integrated than Mass Effect 2's DLC character Zaeed Massani
Hmmm. Found Zaeed a cardboard cut-out whose conversations were mostly mercifully short.
  • hiddenranbir #19 3 months ago

I'm a surprised it has taken a third game to get one.
  • icematt12 #20 3 months ago

There was talk of this member as squad DLC months ago, I believe listed as included with the CE somewhere.

I disagree with "the race referred to as Collectors for most of the second Mass Effect game." Although Collectors and Protheans are the same race, Collectors are basically indoctrinated and genetically modified versions of Protheans and I count them as different. Same with the two different factions of Geth, I don't call the Heretics plain Geth.

Added spoiler tags just n case, better to have them and not need them ;)
  • blarty #21 3 months ago

This is listed as part of the Collector's Edition - this is not Day 1 DLC that you can moan about - it's so you don't moan about people who have the Collector's Editions getting stuff people who buy the standard edition can never have access to......
  • blarty #22 3 months ago

@Das_Ginge "....moved the "purchase" away from being a reward for buying a new copy of the game...." that would be Multiplayer access in ME3 replacing Cerberus Network in ME2.... this is an additional item available with the Collector's Edition, that you can download should you want it if you buy the SE instead.... after all the whinging they got because of the CE items in ME2, they now get it because people label it Day 1 DLC
  • Bremenacht #23 3 months ago

  • CaoSlayer #24 3 months ago

    Collector edition indeed
  • geeza2020 #25 3 months ago

Yeah, no thanks EA. Stuff your day done DLC up your arse. I'm not supporting such disgraceful business practices.

@The_HEAD_85 "...and I'll nut the smegger into oblivion!"

"a Prothean - the race referred to as Collectors for most of the second Mass Effect game."

No. The Collectors were Protheans, but were indoctrinated and genetically altered by the Reapers to suit their own purposes, so much so that they're no longer Protheans. The Prothean who serves as squadmate in ME3 is an actual Prothean, not a Collector. You might as well call Commander Shepard a Husk if you're going to say that.
  • rob_of_the_robots #28 3 months ago

Having seen the picture of this "Prothean" squad member it looks very much like a collector, which leads me to wonder what were all those Prothean statues supposed to be?
  • jonbwfc #29 3 months ago

If you bought the 'Art of The Mass Effect Universe' book this will come as no surprise to you.
  • DurzoBlint #30 3 months ago

It's dumb. Hell of dumb. Typical Bioware.
  • Flub #31 3 months ago

This and other spoilers (Including much more info about this particular on) are in the art book
  • Kaonazhie #32 3 months ago

Oh EA. Glad I'm not paying more than £17 for me3.
  • hiddenranbir #33 3 months ago

    @rob_of_the_robots

Maybe it is a redeemed collector. like they had in that Geth: LEGION.
  • ExplodingClown #34 3 months ago

    @Jigster1

Holy shit! The Protheans were Jamaican? :D

Maybe there'll be dub playing in the lifts this time around.
