Angry Birds Space announced

Rovio's latest leaves the launch pad next month.

Seemingly unsatisfied with conquering the earthly realm, Angry Birds developer Rovio has set its sights on the heavens with the next game in its ubiquitous smartphone smash.

The Finnish developer today announced that Angry Birds Space takes off from March 22nd. No specific platforms were mentioned, though VentureBeat reports that we can expect "simultaneous launches in mobile gaming, animation, retail, and publishing."

Indeed, it seems this will be quite the undertaking for Rovio, with the developer insisting it will be "the biggest game launch since the original Angry Birds."

New features apparently include zero gravity physics, slow-motion and lightspeed destruction. There's a blink-and-you'll-miss-it teaser trailer below.

The Angry Birds series has now passed the 700 million downloads mark. Last week, Facebook became the latest platform to take the game under its wing.
