Game Gear Shinobi, Sonic headed to 3DS

ESRB rating outs downloadable launches.

The first two Game Gear titles to launch on the 3DS eShop will likely be Shinobi and Sonic Triple Trouble.

Both have just recieved fresh ESRB ratings (spotted by TinyCartridge).

Their launch will be the first time non-Nintendo platform games have become available on the 3DS Virtual Console.

Nintendo first announced it would start dusting off Game Gear titles early last year. Turbografx-16 games were also promised.

Sega has launched new games in both the Shinobi and Sonic series for 3DS during the past year, so it makes sense to start mining the back catalogue with these.

Both games were rated "E for Everyone", with Shinobi featuring "animated violence".

GG Shinobi - besides N+, the only game I can think of with a pink ninja.

I wish Yuzo Koshiro was still doing videogame music. His Shinobi and Streets of Rage stuff was amazing.

What's Sonic "Triple Trouble"? I've never heard of that one, but if they can re-release Game Gear Sonic 2, that would be fantastic. I used to love that game to bits!

@MrMarbles He is. I believe his most recent work was 7th Dragon 2020. I know, it's a Japanese release, but you don't need to know Japanese to enjoy music.

The only Sonic game I really liked on the GameGear was the original. It was an amazing, great looking game that did its own thing yet had as much style as the Megadrive version.

I'm sure Sonic 2 was great too but I was unable to EVER get off the first level! That boss!

The MS/GG conversion of Shinobi was and still is awesome. As long as they don't take the piss and charge �5.40, I may consider purchasing.

I'd disagree with that actually, Wizbob - I think they're both equally good games. The Game Gear version is fantastic, has its own unique gameplay and even music by Yuzo Koshiro.

@Machetazo Triple trouble is the fourth game from the 8-bit series, very similar to Sonic Chaos. IIRC, it's called 'Triple Trouble' because it features Robotnik/Eggman, Knuckles and some purple thing called 'Nack the Weasel'.

@sega "That boss" is the reason that I hope they see sense for earlier titles in the 8-bit series and release the Master System versions, which weren't thumbnail sized and artificially difficult...
