Gotham City Impostors release date announced

Again.

Gotham City Imposters has a new release date.

It launches on 7th February on Windows PC and 8th February on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live.

Why, that's next week!

Publisher Warner Bros. Interactive had originally intended to release the title on PC, PSN and Xbox Live on 10th January, but it was delayed without explanation.

Gotham City Impostors is a multiplayer downloadable FPS from F.E.A.R. developer Monolith Productions.

You don't actually play as Batman but as a customisable "imposter" of one of the characters from either Batman's wider circle of friends or The Joker's motley crew.

It's a game that's more fun than it deserves to be but in the beta I played the matchmaking is awful. I'll be happy to jump on board knowing that's sorted.

Lovely trailer but from what I've seen of the gameplay the Batman licence is completely irrelevant. It just looks like a (less attractive) TF2 style game.

I couldn't get a game in the beta. Sat in the lobby with one other guy for fiv minutes then gave up. Training was fun though.

The beta is awesome you really need to try this. Every fps should have a grapple gun !

This is the most fun I've had in any multiplayer game ever. Yes, even moreso than Team Fortress 2 or Bulletstorm. It's THAT good.

For those who looked at it and thought 'TF2', download the beta and check it. It's clearly inspired by TF2, but once you get into it and start unlocking gadgets - which is pretty soon, since even dealing minor damage gives you points - it becomes clear Gotham City Impostors is its own beast. The game realies heavily on clever use of gadgets and has its own humor style, and it couldn't be done without the Batman universe inspiration.

Props to the devs, who managed to do very well what most studios can't: capturing the spirit of a classic using your own tools and ideas.

The only real issue they need to fix is the matchmaking, but it's been slowly improved during the week. Advice: don't sit in the lobby waiting for it to conclude things. If it takes more than 60 seconds to populate the lobby or to start a match, just leave matchmaking and try again. It works for me every time.

I enjoyed what I played of the beta.

How much will this cost? 800 MS points, maybe, 1200 no way.

I can't play it, because i'm actually Batman. I refuse to be an imposter. :p

Played beta, enjoyed it. I did not feel it had long lasting attraction though.

@TeaFiend Considering it's 15 USD/10 pounds it seems it will last enough, at least for me. After 10 hours of play (level 25) half the gadgets are still locked, and they're central to the experience. Add the character appearance customization (items to wear need to be bought with coins gained in-game) and it's even more bang for your buck.

Also, they seem to be prepared to deal with microtransactions (at least some in-game text references buying gadgets and items on PSN) and therefore maybe they'll keep the ball rolling with events and new stuff, just like TF2.

I've played the beta and I really like it. The gadgets put a really interesting spin on things and I love the atmosphere and humour behind it.

    I quite enjoyed the Beta.

Technically it is a little rough though: The resolution is low and the frame rate is poor which makes fast characters leap from frame to frame rather than transition smoothly (no I am not talking about lag).

The gadgets are good but the maps (in the Beta) are very small.

Being able buy equipment early with real money bothers me a lot.

At a probable 1200pts I worry how many maps will included- it could get repetitive very quickly.
