BioWare to hold Star Wars: The Old Republic Guild Summit

Studio wants to explain design decisions, get player feedback.

Star Wars: The Old Republic developer BioWare has invited guild leaders from around the world to its Texas base to harvest some player feedback and discuss future plans for the game.

As detailed on the game's official site, the inaugural Guild Summit takes place at Austin's DoubleTree Hotel from 4th to 6th March.

Attendees will participate in Q&A sessions and roundtable feedback discussions, as well as getting a sneak preview of some new features.

"The goal of the summit is to facilitate an open discussion between guild leaders and the game design team," explained BioWare.

"This event will provide an opportunity for attendees to voice their feedback directly to the teams responsible for the design of Star Wars: The Old Republic, hear the team's thoughts and reasons behind design decisions, and discuss the current direction of the game."

Invitations have been sent out to various high-level players, but any guild leaders out there who haven't received one but would like to attend can fill in an online application form. Should you be deemed worthy, BioWare will then add you to the guest list.

Don't be getting any ideas though - it's not a free jolly. "Guild leaders selected to attend are responsible for all of their travel, food and lodging expenses," added the studio's blurb. Not even a tray of cocktail sausages? Come on now BioWare, share the wealth.

    If every one of those guild leaders doesn't shout "Good space combat" at BioWare's upper brass I'll be very disappointed.

    1.7m active subscriptions less than two months after launch...

    If I was Blizzard, I'd be rather scared right now.

    The problem is I fear most of the guilds going there will be 'professional' focusing more about the ops (raid) content then the actual deeper issues of the game, such as companions and crafting having little part of the endgame, and very little 'guild incentive' involved other then join to raid with them.

    Not only that 8 hour downtimes for small patches, EU getting 2nd hand support 'core' features like the legacy system basically being redundant by the time it has been fully implemented for release players (as it's suppose to 'support' alts and reward them) doesn't help matters.

    SWTOR despite having a good 'personal journey/experience' is very bland on the community and 'real' MMORPG side, this trying to be 'next gen' repeating the mistakes of 3/4 year old games is really hurting the longevity of the title. SWTOR could have been a much better launch then what it has been, despite it being a success, EA/BW have really dropped the ball in places of overall design.

    It's going to be hard to pick back up with other non-subscription titles on the way and other older titles being 'free', it's a very big 'wait and see' moment for the game and if they really need 'player feedback' at this point they really don't have any confidence in their current game plan with content

    Horrid FPS

    This is what the majority put up with: http://www .youtube.com/watch?v=4PTDo9cgk2c

    And the population is dropping rapidly: http://www.mmo -junkies.net/statistics/

    Keep wearing the blinkers buddy, see you on F2P!

    That number will only go down though. I think the game is fine, but the three people I know who play it are all unsubscribing after their first month. (/anecdotal etc)

    Even if every one of those 1.7 million come from WoW, I am sure WoW will do fine with the 8 million or so it has left.
  • darkmorgado #6 3 weeks ago

    @swills

    Half of those 8 million are gold sellers.

    @darkmorgado Don't be an arse, the figures are based on first month figures so there should be 1.7 million subscribers, in fact they sold 2 million copies so that means 300,000 haven't even bothered registering the game or playing it that's 15% of total sales if the figures they give are accuarte (EA's figures mind you)

    Let's see if in 3 months they still have 1 million + subs then you can gloat until then it's like you have premature ejaculation.
  • darkmorgado #9 3 weeks ago

    @Reemul If you think 300k out of 2m is 15% you need to go back to school buddy.
  • George-Roper #10 3 weeks ago

    This reeks of cheap PR.

    If I were an EA shareholder I'd be very worried right about now.
  • Kami #11 3 weeks ago

    @darkmorgado - Umm... 2m / 100 = 20,000.

    20,000 x 15 = 300,000.

    Just sayin'.
  • Scribble #12 3 weeks ago

    @darkmorgado 15/100 = 15%
    30/200 = 15%
    300/2,000 = 15%
    300,000/2,000,000 = 15%

    But you can prove anything with facts...

    You're a fucking retard mate. I actually like the game, but your slebbering, stomach-cringing fanboyism on these forums is simply nauseating. Just because you don't happen to be suffering the crippling performance issues that many others are doesn't invalidate them.

    I've managed to soldier through with the single-player so far (FPs, WZs, OPs etc are all completely unplayable for me), but they won't keep my subscription if they don't address some of the abysmal performance issues (memory leaks, low gpu & cpu usage etc.).

    Oh, and I've actually not been able to play for 4 days now: tried to get off on a particular planet to do a quest but get constantly stuck on the loading screen for said planet. Would be real nice if Customer Service could get back to me on this issue...in the next few weeks or so.

    @darkmorgado "Oh look, the mouthbreathers living in their mother's basement are coming out."

    You, sir, are an arse. Getting on a high horse because of your rampant fanboyism over a game and insulting everyone who doesn't share your personal opinion doesn't do much to make us take your comments seriously.

    Incidentally, I have no opinion either way on the game, because I don't play it; I just came here to read the article. Although the cynci in me can't help but think that if BioWare want's feedback on the game, perhaps it should invite a cross-section of people who bought the game- including those who didn't renew their month's sub - because otherwise they're only getting the opinions of people who are already heavily invested in the game and, most likely, enjoy what it has to offer.

    OMG @darkmorgado you are such a fanboy, don't you have any self-respect?

    @gribb

    Sorry bud, but I have to disagree with you. I *love* the space combat. After I completed my first mission, I went to see my girlfriend (who was in the other room watching NCSI or something) and she said I was smiling like a kid :) I do hope that they make space combat relevant to end game content though. The thing with the space combat is that, it begins as a bit of a no-brain shooter, but the later missions are waaaay more frantic. You really have to use the ship abilities wisely, and know when to shoot, when to 'shield up' and when to evade. Awesome stuff, but definitely seems to be a bit 'marmite'.

    As for all these facts and figures, my interest extends to the point where I want SWTOR to remain successful enough that the servers stay up, thus enabling me to continue to play. I don't care about EA's shares or their shareholders, how the game population compares to WoW (good or bad), or anything else.

    I see faults in SWTOR, but I can live with them. Last night, for example, including a particularly irritating episode. Currently I'm level 38, but have now found myself on Belsavis (a planet for 42+ players). Anyway, I bravely set forth with a mind to cast a multitude of sins on the indigenous population. Then I met my first gold elite. This gentleman seemed to take umbrage to the fact that I was trying to kill him - although that was about as likely as the ill-aimed flailings of a small child killing a large ox. Anyway, he gave me some death. It was tasty. On nom. However, I 'beefed up' and went back for some more 'beatings stew'. But lo! I had him! Death door's beckoned for mr Gold Elite-pants! I had most of my health, my companion was still kicking and the sky was blue! But then... but then... a roaming grey elite came out of nowhere (must have been a bug) and decided to get involved. By 'getting involved' I mean that he stuck his big, ugly nose into what was - up to that point - a fair fight. Due to my inherant manliness, I was able to finish off the gold elite AND the grey elite! "Huzzah!" you say! "Nay!" I say. For the grey elite, in a last, bitter-and-twisted act of malevolence, cast upon me a dot. Said dot killed me a few seconds after the grey elite went down. So there I say in front of my monitor, staring at my corpse, the mission item humming in a non-chalant shade of blue.. with the timer asking me the ultimate question > revive here in 10 minutes, or revive at the med station about 2 clicks to the north? Either way, it meant big boy would be back up and ready to administer a major-revenge-beatings upon me should I wander within a 100 yards of him. I admit to swearing alot, and may have used the C-word in earshot of people who shouldn't hear the C-word. So I revived at the med station, and bravely went to confront my impending death once more. My point? I can put up with shit, and I'm a sucker for punishment. My point in the context of this thread? I don't have one.

    Everyone cut out the back-and-forth insults. And that applies to you as well Morgado, since you started it by calling people that disagree with you mouthbreathers! :/

    @Kremlik - some fair points. I had been enjoying the game up to 50, but it just doesn't feel like there is enough community and real MMO side as you mentioned, there isn't enough to draw me in any more and convince me to log on. I'll still be playing the game, but it just feels a bit flat at the moment, which is a real shame as I had been absorbed so much until I got to the later levels. I'm seeing a few friends etc drop off already so I'm very curious to see what subs will be like 2 or 3 months from now. Hopefully they'll keep adding content.
