Boxed version of Alan Wake PC revealed

Includes both Xbox 360 DLCs.

A boxed version of Alan Wake on PC will launch on these shores.

Publisher Nordic Games has snapped up the distribution rights to the Remedy-developed thriller and will sell a boxed version that includes The Signal and The Writer DLC.

It releases in February. An exact release date will be announced soon.

Alan Wake on PC was announced last month for launch on digital platform Steam during the first quarter of 2012.

    They're not 'XBLA' DLC's :)
  • arcam #2 4 months ago

    I hope the Steam version includes The Signal and The Writer also.

    Looking forward to this release now, even if the 'new direction' of the sequel has slightly dampened my enthusiasm for the series.

    I might bite on this now actually. Those stupid comments made about PC were a MS staff member apparently and nothing to do with Remedy so I'll give it a chance. Depsite the rather lukewarm reception it seemed to receive on 360 some say they really enjoyed it.

    Will the disc version use Steamworks though? These days any boxed retail game chaining me to a digital distribution service I didn't buy it from is a sale item at best for me.

    Edit - apparently it is Steamworks DRM for anyone interested. Might see you in the 2012 christmas sale Remedy. *sigh*

    I enjoyed it, even "jumped" a few times which is always a good sign.

    I'm so glad more people get to experience this masterpiece.

    why steam? I was about to jump on this as soon it would have been released, but I can't stand internet drms

    Loved it on the 360. I will love it again on the PC.

    Finally we'll be able to play it in HD.

    You sound like you didn't end up with enough games to last you the whole year from the last Steam sale. What's your secret to making it through one of those with your wallet intact?

    Leaving it until then isn't such a bad idea either way though. It may even crop up during summer if you're lucky.
  • bad09 #11 4 months ago

    @Toothball

    Yeah I picked up a few at christmas and thanksgiving sales but a lot of the games I do want didn't hit my sweet spot in pricing so waiting for this years sales. For most games now I'll now normally pay a tenner or under and usually no more than a fiver for the maybes (with no way to recoup lost money I'm not gambling on maybes anymore) or retail games using Steamworks although I pushed that to £8 last weekend on Deus Ex as my Mrs offered to buy me it. :)

    Biggest problem: because I was interested in the game, I've read about it, including a post-mortem that spoiled the plot. Would have avoided that had I known a PC version is in the works.

    Seeing how most people who played seem to think the plot is more interesting than the gameplay, I am not sure if it's still worth it.
  • Inmediasress #13 4 months ago

    Well I probably will buy this but only when it drops to around half price together with Kingdoms of Amalur.
    That way I may even get somethign worth while for my money.

    The price is the vital piece of missing information.
  • Anciegher #17 4 months ago

    Will the boxed version support steam works? If so, that is great news since steam is always overpriced in Sweden whereas buying physical is usually 50-30% cheaper.
  • Okamiwolf #18 4 months ago

    Would be nice if they re-released the LE edition with the book, for an extra $15-$20 on top of Steam's price. Really, fancy extras are the best way to justify a boxed version of a PC game existing nowdays.

    Played again last night. Very few games bring the pacing so tight, such impressive visuals, and such fine audio. what naughty dog are looking to acheive with that last of us game, it's already been done. This game will rise up and up over the next few yrs i'm sure of it...it was in a number of games shadow at the time, but it's clearly higher quality in most respects than most of the games getting higher ratings now, so it's stock will surely rise. Arkham city...nope you're not as good..gears 3...not even close...uncharted 3...take a back seat...PC gamers i really think are going to love this game, it's technically magnificent and i'd guess will be better than ever on a high end rig. The time flys whenever i play it, even now.

    Looking forward to the new one..though i can't imagine the environment will be done as well as those forests.

    Kind of ironic for @CheeseChipsAndBeans to bitch about people making posts no one cares about, considering his own posts are such a colossal waste of time.
  • Baihu1983 #22 4 months ago

    @arcam It does

    And American Nightmare is not a new direction for the series just a spin off while 2 will be more like the first game

    my 360 died halfway through me playing AW and i never got another, so really looking forward to playing again on the PC. really enjoyed what i played.

    @bad09

    These days I tend to wait for sales too, unless I intend to play a game right after buying it. Seems foolish not to really. Publishers seem to be the ones who are most keen on day one sales, as they get their chart position and hype. For gamers however, a little patience goes a long way.
  • sourc0r #26 4 months ago

    I never gave up hope and now it pays off. Great news. Not a great game, but.. good in.. many ways!
  • Darren #27 4 months ago

    If the game is out next month then where can I pre-order it from? ShopTo.net don't have it listed, nor do Amazon or GAME. :(
  • wattsn26 #28 4 months ago

    So Microsoft doesn't own the Alan Wake series either???....I loved Alan Wake 1 and I would actually like to see it be successful as a multiplatform game if that is indeed the case.
  • wattsn26 #29 4 months ago

    @BillyBrush Alan Wake is not as good as any of the games you mentioned, and I enjoyed the game a lot.

    "The Last of Us" isn't going to play like Alan Wake I'm sure
  • PenguinJim #30 4 months ago

    But where's Deadly Premonition on PC!?
  • BillyBrush #31 4 months ago

    @wattsn26 Well, we have differing opinions..personally it's one of my favourite games ever made...half life, ico, mgs3, to me it's in a club consisting of very few games, obviously everyone's favourites are different though. the basic qualities of the game though i would expect should come through to most people, there's a lot of objectively high quality stuff there. I think it'll make a number of new fans on PC.
