    @Psychtoext: The actual answer for what the "XXX" stands for is "formulate a plan with the girl to free ourselves from this crazy predicament we have found ourselves in". The game is actually not as sinister as people assume.

    @geeza2020 it is a bit dodgy but step sister isnt blood related its probably happened a fair bit. Not the same as if she was blood related. I mean freaking Reaper the tv show had him openly going for his step sister in that.

    But its funny that they doing a love sim on the 3DS it wont be released in europe probably onliny in japan.

    In my opinion I don't think it actually makes much moral difference whether it is half or step sister. It is the sister part that is the problem. It is true that the moral rule against having sex with someone you're a close blood relation to is partly based on genetics. We have evolved to find the idea repugnant because it is bad for us as a species genetically. However, in this day and age of contraception and morning after pills we really needed be too worried about that and it needed concern relationships that can't yield offspring at all. We can from a genetic standpoint have sex with our relatives with as clear conscience as we do when having sex with anyone else we can't have children with. It strikes me as no more problematic from a genetic standpoint then having sex with someone known to have a serious genetic disorder.

    On the other hand whatever the genetic relation it is still morally wrong to have sex with a family member. It is morally wrong because sex is such a delicate personally thing over which it is very easy to be abused and suffer long term emotional damage. Familial relationships on the other hand are frequently long and somewhat complicated with and the possibility for it to all go horribly wrong for one or both parties if sex is introduced is too great. The family should be something of a safe-haven from any thought of sex because we need that. People, particularly young people need a place where they can interact with people with whom it is set in stone that it would be wrong for you to have sex. It is the fact that in this game they are mixing a brother-sister relationship with a lustful one that makes it wrong. We trust that our relations won't lust after us or will have the decency to keep it to themselves if they do. It is the betrayal of that trust that is morally wrong. It is similar to the teacher-student relationship, a teacher will be fired and rightly so for having a sexually relationship with a student even if that student is over the age of consent because they have betrayed a social trust and introduced or allowed to be introduced a sexual relationship where none should exist.

    There is a further complication of course which is that if two people, blood relations or not, never had a family relationship and met when they were both sexually mature and decided that based on their attraction they'd rather pursue a sexual relationship than a familial one then there is nothing wrong with that (as long as they don't breed).

    This is getting pretty philosophical for a game news comment section :P. But I guess the discussion is relevant to the game.

    I agree with what you wrote in your first paragraph, but disagree with the rest. If the feelings are mutual I don't see how a sexual relationship between two mature adults is inherently wrong. I think you have the false presumption that in such a relationship one has to be a victim and one a predator. Also it seems you're presuming that love and support can only exist in a platonic relationship. Abusing someone is of course wrong, but a sexual relationship between stepfamily members needn't be abusive, and can be built upon mutual love and trust.

    A step-brother and a step-sister might not even have grown up together, they might have met for the first time when they were both adults. I don't see how them getting together would be immoral. In some cases the stepsiblings might have even gotten into a relationship before their parents did. Many stepsiblings have gotten married - there certainly is no law against it.

    Sure sex can be a delicate matter and feelings can get hurt, but if we humans didn't risk it every now and then we'd be extinct quite fast.

    @Naster Yeah, I can't see much else point to this article except as a discussion point about how weird this is.

    Your third paragraph I do agree with and I hoped my final paragraph dealt with that.

    It wasn't my intention to presume that love and support were limited to platonic relationships, not at all. I can see where you're getting that idea from though and I can also see a lot I'd love to agree with in your own views.

    I think I might have to go even more philosophical in order to explain my position and how it differs from yours. Everything you've said suggests to me you're an act-utilitarian or at least some sort of moral consequentialist. You seem to hold that as long as it in fact works out okay then it was morally fine and that is what I disagree with. I'm a rule-utilitarian which is based on act-utilitarianism but I think a bit more practical regarding how the morality should guide actions. I have a good deal of sympathy for the idea that the right act is the one which brings the greatest happiness and least suffering into the world and I believe that is the most fundamental sort of moral fact and the basis for all other moral facts (so I do believe act-utilitarianism is fundamentally correct). However we have to operate within certain epistemic constraints. It might bring the greatest happiness for someone to start a sexual relationship with their brother and in one sense that would be the right thing to do. However I don't believe they could ever know that that was the right thing to do, I think without the benefit of hide-sight such an act is almost always a bad bet. Because of that I think it is best if we as a society have the simple moral rule that we should not start sexual relationships with our brothers and this grounds the sense in which I was condemning such things as wrong.

    This is of course all deeply tied to our particular society and view of sex. If things were different so our society wasn't so prudish and uptight about sex then the moral rule might well be different.

    We do need to gamble that sex and relationships will work out okay but we need to choose the right bets. There are plenty of pretty good bets out there in sexual terms but in my view the category that might be broadly labeled incest contains almost none of them and so as a rule I'd say it was morally wrong.
