Capcom has "big plans" for Street Fighter's 25th birthday
Ken you believe it's been that long?
Capcom has something special planned to mark the 25th anniversary of the Street Fighter franchise.
An official birthday logo was unveiled on its blog earlier today, which you can check out below, though concrete details on exactly what sort of merriment fans can expect was cruelly withheld until a later date.
"Can you believe Ryu has been throwing fireballs and scarring chests for a quarter century?" read the post.
"For 25 years Street Fighter's iconic hero has wandered the globe in search of the perfect battle, and to commemorate his quest - not to mention the millions of fans who've followed him every step of the way - we're preparing some big plans for 2012.
"The full details of this international celebration are still to come, but I can at least share the official logo that'll emblazon all related products through the year."
For those keeping score, 30th August is apparently the series' official birthday.
One thing we know for sure - crossover dust-up Street Fighter X Tekken will be the next significant outing for the franchise, launching on 9th March.

That was my first thought, but they'll probably release Street Fighter 2 for the 87th time.

Damn! I was about to type that one, then checked and found yours
edit:
What hasn't happened yet?
If they could release Marvel vs. Capcom, Marvel Super Heroes, X-Men and Marvel Super Heroes vs. Streetfighter all together in a compilation, then that'd be special.
Not likely at all however, due to licensing.
In terms of Streetfighter... well... I'll wait for the surprise, but after Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, it's hard to retain much excitement, and to go out and spend on launch day when I feel like I'm being pissed around.

Akuma on here all excited but { 2-hit combo ! } Hakan believe Capcom would be Abel to complete another game by year's end. Dan { Taunt ! } there's the matter of whether to keep the old animation frames intact, Oro { Link ! } Hugo make them a -new as with SSF2:HD? All the artwork would need to be re -done from the arcade version's 320 x 400 for this Gen { LP -> HP } . Ryu think the average Guy { Link ! } Mike { Link ! } Bison copies of that to make a worthwhile return?
Personal favourites are "SF: Zero 2 Dash" and "SF vs X-Men" on the Saturn with the 4MB expansion cartridge. Oh what heady days! However as the quality of the hardware Rose, the same could be Sean { Parry ! } in the design of the gameplay and I can now happily Rolento { Pipe Bomb ! } playing "SSF4: Arcade Edition" online for my fix. Ah well, Retsu what happens anyway. Capcom Ken lay out the anniversary bombast but a little Birdie tells me to expect them to turn around Zangieff the average Joe a bunch of plastic and towels.

As for the Tekken game, don't get me started on that Mishi -mash of dial a combo and ten strings. Loved "Tekken 2" when it came out at the time but the new cross-over smells like another typical money grab. Numb -co couldn't design themselves out of a pissed on paper bag if they had to, and it's a shame that the last really innovative 2 -player fighting games "Tobal 2" and "VF3: TB" were a failure on console.

I've yet to buy a 3D SF game. Maybe if they release something fancy I could be converted.

The Anniversary celebration product will probably be a compilation disc (SF1, SF2 HF/HDRemix, SF3
Capcom are not ignoring Darkstalkers - Ono is keen on it, hence the inclusion of Dalkstalkers characters in MvC3, but there actually isn't as much fan demand as you think there is - more loud voices than lots of voices.
TxSF is in pre-production - you won't hear a peep about it until Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is released at the end of the Year. Otherwise they face underminding their main product. This is why Soul Calibur 5 is out this month, and TTT2 is out almost a year later.
Hadouken.

looking forward to playing it with the six buttons again like the good old days.
even the ps3 D-pad is shit (and i know people complain about the 360 D-pad!) but without the diagonals, they are both crap for fighting games. and using shoulder buttons in place of two face buttons is just wrong.
