Homefront Ultimate Edition announced

Out this Spring.

A hot-off-the-press release schedule from THQ has revealed the existence of Homefront Ultimate Edition.

The publisher has yet to reveal what the release might contain.

THQ lists the Ultimate Edition for launch before the end of the financial year - by March 31st.

Likely to be included are the two pieces of multiplayer add-on content released thus far - "The Rock" and "Fire Sale" map packs.

We're checking with THQ now for the full details.

Homefront was released last March to a lukewarm reception but decent sales - enough that Crysis multiplayer developer Crytek UK is now working on a sequel, due "fiscal year 2014".

Got the game on rental as I wasn't too sure about the game. Single player was ok, I loved the MP though. I would purchase this edition of the game just for Multiplayer.

picked up homefront for a fiver last week and could not believe my luck that the online pass was unused. Not bothered with one player much cos the multiplayer is brill. good maps, good spawns, bullets that hit, perfect balancing of rifle vs smg. 32 players (ps3) its basically everything MW3 wasn't which is what i sold to by this, castlevania, crysis 2, and fear 3. bargain!

My favourite MP ever. Great mixture of twitch and tactical play. It was however technically flawed and eventually ruined by divisive way the DLC was handled.

I look forward to HF2 being a Next Gen release title.

Ultimate Edition? I find it hard to believe there is going to be enough "new" stuff to make this anything more than a quick cash-in.

Underrated gem of a game, particularly the multiplayer. The gameplay is smack bang in the middle between Battlefield and Call of Duty, feeling more immediate than the former and bigger in scale than the latter. I feel it compliments (rather than competes with) both, if you're into that genre ...yet has an atmosphere, aesthetic and quirkiness that sets it apart.

Will be exciting to see what this edition brings. Fingers crossed for some new maps, a graphical update and maybe an expansion campaign. Regardless, kudos to THQ for not dropping the title and its cult fanbase like a hot potato simply because it didn't do as well as expected.

This game seemed to have slipped under the radar when it was released, imo the multi-player in this game is one of the best out there. great game.

Hopefully when this edition is released, the game will get the bigger fan base that it rightly deserves.

Just like FFOW i enjoyed Homefront's MP. I think what a lot of guys and myself included were let down by were the gun mechanics and the movement of the player, it just didn't feel beefy enough compared to other games.

I was always tempted to pick this up, but heard mp was horribly flawed and everyone was deserting it, due to spwan camping issues etc.
They always said it was fun, but wouldnt recommend buying it now.

Ive decided to flog mw3, as was bolloxed online from day 1, and ive still got blops, and bf3 anyway. Just cant get into mw3 at all.

Are there still plenty people playing this?

Have to agree the SP was poor, BUT the MP is awesome. I have a lot of mates that had a go on the SP and thought "gash" and traded it in without giving the multiplayer a decent go "Blinkerd fools" its them who missed out.

This is the way franchises are built folks. It doesn't much matter that Homefront was rather meh (or so I've heard, I didn't play it myself). The point is it generated enough sales (even if it did also generate a lot of trade-ins) and hype to have good name recognition for a sequel to be an event game, a game everyone buys just because everyone else is buying it. That is how blockbusters have worked in the world of cinema for years and that is how it has started to work with big name games as well.

@arcam You're welcome. I wish companies wouldn't change the names of studios to completely generic things like that. I had to google to remind myself. If they'd called them 'Crytek Free Radical' or something then everyone would still instantly know who they were and that they weren't Crytek proper.
