    Drab brown environments. Check.

    Big hulking monster. Check.

    Machine fun fire. Check.

    Must be Gears of War!

    Oh.

    Is that a KroganHusk in picture number 2?

    Why are they only showing the shooting sequences surely a image of Shepherd drinking/whoring/chatting with friends would be just as tantalising.
  • menage #3 5 months ago

    I've seen enough shooty bits already, is there still an RPG in there or what.

    Bioware's marketing team are banking on the RPG fanbase already being aware and planning on buying the game anyway, so they're just trying to appeal mostly to the shooter demographic whilst still dropping little hints of the underlying RPG supporting it all from time to time.

    Still, we're not too far off release now. They need to step their marketing up a gear; I don't want to be told that Shepard dies in the beginning and of the suicide mission's possible outcome like we were before ME2, but I'd like to see a purely cinematic trailer at least. Preferably voiced by both Martin Sheen and Lance Henriksen.

    I really hope Bioware dont go to shit now EA have really sunk their teeth into them

    / it'll never be my Shepherd, etc., etc.,..

    You get the feeling Mass Effect fans just want to play this and get the trilogy over with. As long as they have a good story to finish it off I should enjoy it for the most part. There was enough shooting in the second one to last a whole trilogy.

    Gotta love these 3rd person shooters.

    I'm seriously wondering if it's worth going through 50 hours of average shooting in order to continue the path of my Shepard from ME2, especially if the pay-off is as weak as it was in that game. Definitely waiting and seeing on this one.

    i hope that recent success of skyrim will remind bioware that there is still money to be made on rpg demographic, because this shift from story&rpg elements toward shooting'shit seems troubling...and, i don't know if i'm the only one that feels that way, but doesn't everything we saw so far about ME3 look... generic? :/ they could literally replace ME characters with CoG's, and that would look Totally like gears of war : /

    Pre-ordered this yesterday. Pretty much the only gaming-related thing I'm excited about in 2012.

    OH YEAH.
  • Daeltaja #16 5 months ago

    They already tried produce what they THOUGHT we wanted with Dragon Age II, went for a more action-y, streamlined experience, yet it may aswell have flopped and are now looking at Skyrim for inspiration since it sold so many units.

    Couldn't be any less excited for this.

    I just hope it's less shooter like then ME2 and goes back to it's (albeit improved) ME1 RPG roots and the focus will be single player campaign. The whole MP aspect always worries me in previously SP only games as undoubtedly precious time and resources need to be diverted.

    Why is it that so little of the fighting (or at least what Bioware want to talk about) seems to be against the Reapers when they're supposed to be the main enemy? That's why this emphasis on the gunfighting worries me - how are we supposed to take down an armada of ships with a comparative pea-shooter?

    I don't understand why the mechanics of gunplay are such a MASSIVE issue with ME, yet the combat mechanics of say, Skyrim/Dark Souls/The Witcher, which are all blade based, don't get classifed as hack and slash games.

    Why is ME a CoD clone, for using gones, and Skyrim not a Darksides clone for using swords?

    @Kaassmagent - You mention Skyrim, for example. Skyrims story, is actually pretty short, and pretty basic. The beauty of Skyim comes from the abilty to craft your own narrative. Its also exceptionally combat heavy. Yet you seem able to classify that game as an RPG, without sterotyping it, yet at the same time damn ME for using guns, and claiming it has no story.

    I would argue that, whatever your feelings on the story itself, from a narrative point of view, ME has a greater story then Skyrim.

    Back on point, its very difficult to not see much of the anti bioware comments and anti ME comments to be extremely hypocritical, and have less to do with rational criticism of the games (including a game that hasnt even be released) and more to do with a desire to bash Bioware at all costs, even to the extend of open hypocrisy.

    The only difference between the combat in ME and say Skyrim, is that when you press the button, a gun fires, instead of a sword swinging. And apparantly this makes the game somehow lesser. Thats pretty weak.

    @Nevflinn

    I'm assuming you missed the video where shepard is bringing an ultra thresher down on a reaper.
  • kassmageant #22 5 months ago

    @anomagnus

    your combat-gameplay argument is weird :p i don't say these game fragments are unplayable, but i don't think that ANYONE played ME like that " ok, let's skip this cutscene and shoot some stuff!" nah, and i must admit i do that in games like halo or GoW or CoD. if someone tells me gears of war had cool story i want to punch'em. and that's why i LOVE Mass Effect: it got competent shooting gameplay, AND story that i really care about. and my problem is that so far, bioware didn't showed me ANYTHING to get excited story-wise. they show off only combat.

  • WillTheSecond #24 5 months ago

    I'd like to see this advertised as an RPG, getting just a bit concerned about the focus on guns, and lack of focus on story in all this promo material...
  • Nova1977 #25 5 months ago

    I got the previous games on all three systems(had to replace copy of ME1 after disc broke), this one I'm just gonna wait a bit. Or maybe decide after the demo (hopefully still) hits this month.

    @anomagnus No, I saw it. But given all the other screenshots we've seen so far, that's the only one where a Reaper is involved in the gameplay - and even then, I'm not sure about how much the player actually gets to do against it and how much is just cutscene work.

    We got Dark Souls,The Witcher 2,Skyrim and Deus Ex Human rev (I think I'm forgetting one) this year. Each of them an RPG first and foremost. This has being a good year for RPG's.

    Expectations I think are going to be even higher than before. I enjoyed ME2, but compared with what's being realeased this year ME3 in my opinion is going to need to improve it's RPG aspects for example

    - Improved Skilltree

    - Stats that effect health,shield,resistances and the potency of weapons and abilities but not weapon accuracy.

    - More varied gear,

    - Good/great storyline & characters

    - Interesting enviroments

    I have not seen any of that from the trailers and screenshots yet, or maybe I've missed them

    AND

    They need to get their shooting aspect up to the standard of GOW and Uncharted because When someone plays a shooter lets face it there is a high expectation of the gunplays quality. Or at the miniumum make the battles smoother and more enjoyable.

    I realy realy hope they manage to pull this of because if they do ME3 is likely to be my fav game of all time combining shooters and RPG's. I justr dont think it's possible :{

    Also does anyone find he way characters move with wepons drawn in the ME series stiff and weird?
  • kassmageant #29 5 months ago

    @Garulon taking into account that trasher maws appear on so many planets, as we saw in ME1, it makes you wonder - WHY reapers didn't made tresher maw reaper yet? if big trasher maw can Pwn reaper spider-mech, then it should be a no-brainer for species whose intentions are " beyond our comprehension" : ))
