First Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 DLC screenshot released

Infinity Ward has released the first Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 DLC screenshot.

The image, below, is of the multiplayer map Park (Central Park?), which launches 24th January for Xbox 360-owning Call of Duty Elite premium subscribers.

On the One of Swords blog, Activision community man Dan Amrich explained how MW3's DLC will be dished out to Call of Duty gamers.

"Other platforms and dates were not discussed, but remember that there's a double-whammy here," he said.

"Due to a business arrangement from 2010, Xbox 360 gets DLC content ahead of other platforms, and Activision has promised Elite subscribers will get DLC content ahead of the general public.

"With that in mind, I see five audiences: Xbox 360 Elite, Xbox 360 general public, PS3 Elite, PS3 general public, and PC. I don't yet know in what order each of those audiences will be served. That could get confusing, but you know I'll do my best to make it as easy to figure out as possible."

Infinity Ward said January's DLC includes Spec Ops content and "a variety of things that players have never seen before". Three developers are working on MW3 DLC: Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software.

Meanwhile, Infinity Ward confirmed the iOS and Android Elite clients will arrive in January 2012.

sweet cant wait for some new maps.

The FourTwoZero twitter feed says "For Elite Subscribers" no mention of "just 360".

Could you double check and confirm if the "Elite" membership negates the 360 exclusiveness of the DLC. I've heard a few different things.

As a PS3 Elite member I'd be a little peeved if I have to wait a month and it would certainly contradict the way Elite was Sold to PS3 owners. It made no mention of any DLC delay for us.

    Cheers.

@KayJay Microsoft has secured Call of Duty DLC timed exclusivity. It will launch on Xbox 360 first.

    Okay read the article again.

    FFS. :/

This whole Elite Subscribers thing is stupid. Greed is destroying video games... The industry will implode soon, just watch and see.

    Sorry Wyp.
Way to early in the morning, I didn't read it properly. The whole article makes perfect reading if I'd have not scan read it and missed all the important stuff.... :)

@darkcult i agree - though what this will likely mean is that a lot of people who can't be bothered to wait, will now also subscribe to Elite. a few more bucks is nothing - you'll see :)
  • peeps #9 5 months ago

Annoying to know u have to wait despite paying a sub for elite... especially if just standard 360 gamers get the dlc before ps3 elite
  • adi7 #10 5 months ago

    Looks a bit like Operation Metro's exterior.Which is'nt a bad thing.

"This whole Elite Subscribers thing is stupid. Greed is destroying video games... The industry will implode soon, just watch and see."

Players getting a bulk discount on DLC is hardly "greed" though.

What´s worse is this exclusivity bullshit - only hurts PS3 players, no benefit for 360 owners. Meh.

I wonder if you can splash around gaily in that fountain like in the opening credits for Friends.
  • Jonny5Alive7 #13 5 months ago

That screenshot looks like the BF3 map from the beta.

I usually buy the first map pack, but by the time the 2nd one comes my annual addiction has drained.

What I'd like to know is how Robert Bowling went from being a t*%t of a Community Manager to Creative Strategist of Infinity Ward.

I know a load of people left Infinity Ward to join Respawn but surely there was someone better qualified left over to take over that role.

    Wow how unimpressed
  • 00.00.01 #16 5 months ago

PS3 Elite? Wow, community man Dan Amrich sees audiences I've never heard of! But then he IS Acti's community man so he knows all about target audiences. It's information like this that proves to me how close Acti is to MS, or rather, how far away Acti is from the PS3.
  • Teamallstar #17 5 months ago

Almost forgot that MW3 existed. Haven't bothered with it due to shockingly dull map design. Worst COD by far.

Thank god for Battlefield 3 and its free DLC
  • Raptaur #18 5 months ago

Why the hell is there two images of the same shot.

Its not fooling me into thinking the maps bigger?
  • WadiumArcadium #19 5 months ago

Why pay for map packs when I can get them free along with new weapons, vehicles and unlockables in Battlefield 3?
  • geeza2020 #20 5 months ago

So it'll be 1200 points again? No environmental destruction, no vehicles, and annoyinh, stupid kill streaks? No changes to the formula whatsoever? I'll stick with the undeniably superior BF3 thanks :)

Yeah I'm sure the fuck-ton of money big publishers are making off us will make them 'implode'.

We're all to blame here, we piss and moan about lack of creativity and then go and buy the shit anyway.

Vote with your wallet, or fuck off - you have no right to be complaining.
  • TazerFan #23 5 months ago

Looks fun, hope us normal folk get it relatively soon.
  • rickster999 #24 5 months ago

I see a shitstorm happening if non Elite 360 gamers get this before PS3&PC Elite subscribers.
But I reckon they'll release it to 360 Elite, then AT THE SAME TIME release it to PS3&PC Elite as well as non-elite 360 users.

This will cober Microsoft's early DLC requirements, as well as the PS3&PC Elite members, getting it earlier than their same system peers.

Not sure if I'll bother this time round, have lost my interest in any and all FPS.
  • HeNiCiDe1988 #25 5 months ago

looks cool but I have no money.
  • HeNiCiDe1988 #26 5 months ago

@KayJay dude are you seriously surprised that you got misinformed? They just wanted you to pay, 360 is the sponsored console (when went to gamefest its the version they support the most) thus it will always get priority and microsoft have paid for that exclusive time release to make you switch to them. So yeah your boned because you still have to wait.

Fighting will take place around the fountain in this epic, sprawling map......
  • Najica #28 5 months ago

Am I the only one who thinks the standard MW3 maps are a huge step backwards from MW2? Mind you, I'm a SMG player, so I should love close quarter, but nearly *everything* is close quarter (which in a way promotes camping, as more people walk by) and some maps have, to me at least, no logical structure at all. I hope these will be a tad more spacious.

That's not to say that I don't enjoy them, because I do. Just being a bit critical.

mw3 lol u still playing that?
  • AnotherIdiot #30 5 months ago

This elite nonsense is annoying. My £10 is just as elite as anybody elses and I want to buy the content when it comes out, I'm not signing up for any Elite shit.

Lol this is great. I loved COD4, and someone bought me MW3 for Christmas, and now looking at the comments, it sounds like I should throw it back at my Auntie and ask her to get me something good. lol
  • Crusherkai #32 5 months ago

Really annoyed as a PS3 gamer bought the hardened and still non elite xbox gamers can get it before the premium PS3 gamers. All money and greed they care about. >:(
  • Sir_STRESSHEaD #33 5 months ago

@murrell96 Uh... amongst other things Yes! Problem?
