4 On Demand now live on Xbox 360

Demand 5 app also arrives on the dash.

Channel 4's 4oD streaming service is now live on the Xbox360 dashboard, Microsoft has announced.

According to Major Nelson's blog, Five's Demand 5 service is also now available.

"Xbox Live Gold membership and/or additional subscriptions/fees may be required," wrote Nelson.

Here's the full list of new services rolling out today across the globe:

4 on Demand (C4). United Kingdom
ABC iView (Australian Broadcasting Corp.). Australia
Dailymotion. Available in 34 countries globally
Demand 5 (Five). United Kingdom
M6. France
MSN Video. France
UFC on Xbox LIVE (UFC). Canada, United States
VUDU (Wal-Mart). United States

Movie service Lovefilm was added to the dashboard earlier this month, with a number of other broadcasters due in the near future.

Hurrah! No longer do I have to put up with the appalling interface of the web-based PS3 version.

You have to press OK a lot before it plays stuff though, eh?

Edit: Maybe that was only the first time before I had told its parental controls where to go.

I thought the on demand apps were supposed to be free for everyone? Being an xbox live free member myself, this kinda disappoints me...

... And you have to sit through unskippable adverts to view the low resolution content on both.

I have to admit that I was expecting a lot more from these services, so far only YouTube has been in HD. Lovefilm is particularly disappointing.

Actually, the Channel 5 one looked like it was HD (or just really good SD, compared to 4 OD) on some Suzi Perry photography programme I tried out.

Channel 4 seems resolutely SD, though, but it's not worse than onPS3.

They are likely lower than broadcast SD resolution of 720x576 pixels and also significantly lower bandwidth than terrestrial, satellite or cable services' 2.5Mbps-ish

Lovefilm is particularly disappointing

Amen to that. I'm on a trial atm, with a particular interest in streaming, and there's no way I'll be subscribing once it ends. Quality is seemingly less than iplayer SD. When Netflix starts up next year they'll get a rather large wakeup call.

Can't get too excited.

Lovefilm navigated really well but the films available on my iPad / PS3 just weren't there.

And the Xbox is the only place I've ever known YouTube to be slow. It's weird. The newest videos aren't up there either. How do they muck up YouTube?

As with all these services, it is a bit unreliable with everyone trying to access them all at once to start with, but generally i've been quite pleased with the apps provided so far and enjoy having the option of watching content on my big TV instead of having to sit at the computer. Thanks Mircosoft and keep them coming

Signed up for this last night, after giving up with the appalling PS3 4OD - it just doesn't work! Interface is terrible, when I select a program it just refreshes the page.

Am I doing something wrong?!

I found no problems with LoveFilm resolution so far, better interface and quality than PS3 version. Youtube video playback was somewhat choppy when I gave it a quick go though. I expect the 4oD app will be better than the PS3 version as well. Who cares about the 5 stuff

@liam_monster - The issue could be down to the Region setting you're using. I forget the specifics but I basically fooled my Xbox 360 into thinking I had an American copy of NBA 2K10 by setting the Region to US as the UK copy did not have the live online updates if it was set to UK. (This may have been for NBA 2K9 by the way but, whatever, it definitely worked and raised the question of why it was left out for UK users if a simple Region setting could enable it).

4OD resolution does seem to be very low, especially if you've got used to all the HD content widely available on Sky (for a price admittedly.)

It is also annoying not being able to skip the adverts, one of the main benefits watching a recording on Sky+

Both Youtube and Daily motion on the Xbox clearly block some content which is available if you browse the same sites on pc. So rather a let down, really. Xbox live is clearly not going to be the only media centre you need.
