Next Gran Turismo 5 DLC dated and detailed

New content and patch due out next week.

A fresh batch of Gran Turismo 5 content lands on 21st December, Sony has announced.

As detailed on the PlayStation Blog, there'll be two different releases available to download.

First up, Car Pack 2 offers a new and improved 2012 Nissan GT-R Black edition R35, 2011 MINI COOPER S, 2010 Volkswagen Golf VI R, and a 2010 Volkswagen Scirocco R. It'll set you back €3.99 or your local equivalent.

Secondly, all those who picked up either the Racing Car Pack 1, Course Pack 1 or the 'Complete Pack' earlier this year can download the Family Upgrade which allows more than one user to access that content from the same PlayStation 3 unit.

The upgrade doesn't apply to the Racing Gear Pack or Special Paint Pack but automatically applies to the new Car Pack 2.

On top of that, those who own any of the October DLC packs get the Gran Turismo Racing Kart 125 SP and five New Car Refresh cards as an additional extra. The refresh cards revert any car back to 'as good as new' while retaining any modifications or paint jobs you have applied.

Finally, update 2.02 also goes live on the 21st, bringing with it a host of tweaks and enhancements. Highlights of the patch include:

  • Offering the ability to change wheels on standard cars.
  • A 'copy' feature will be added to settings sheets.
  • In GT Auto, players will be able to see how the oil changes, aerodynamic parts, engine overhauls, and racing modifications will affect performance points and engine power, before and after their application.
  • Free tickets have been added that allow you to wash cars, change oil, overhaul your engine, or refresh the car body in GT Auto (10 coupons will be distributed for free to each of those who have downloaded the 2.02 update).
  • Pressing the □ button in the car ticket selection screen of the Car Delivery, will now allow you to exchange all car tickets at once.
  • In screens where the [Garage] and [Driver List] buttons are displayed in the A/B Spec events, Special Events, and Seasonal Events, pressing the □ button will now show the [Garage], and pressing the △ button will show the drivers list.
  • An option has now been added for 'Max. number of participants - this is featured in the room settings of My Lounge.
  • Added ☆ marks which show the number of Gold Trophies attained in each event, in the event selection screen of seasonal events.
  • Racing sound effect adjustment.
  • Elements of the steering assist controls (used when using certain controllers on Racing Karts) have been adjusted.

As one final Christmas in-game extra, all those who download the update get a Toyota FT86 '12.

This game keeps on giving, how big is the final file size going to be? We should start a competition. Unfortunately we might all be dead by the time these guys stop adding stuff. :)

Took ages to install it on a new PS3 the other day - in daytime on a good broadband connection.

I feel sorry for anyone installing it from scratch in the evening, on a slow broadband connection.

Does GT5 have porsche in it yet?
  • Jay-ITFC #4 5 months ago

Full game can be had from Amazon right now for under a tenner, contains over 1,000 cars. Yet DLC is 4 euros for 4 cars! Do these companies think we're stupid?

that's really good from Polyphony, to still be doing this.

GT5 when released was an absolute plonker. It was a poorly made game (interface and gameplay) which is no surprise given every previous entry in the series, since then I have gotten an Xbox 360 primarily for Forza 4 A GAME THAT IS FUN! The fact that DLC for a game which was so poor to begin with, is not free is just further confirmation of how messed up this generation of developers are - and no I don't think everything should be free (say paint chips perhaps) however in order to rebuild goodwill for the series the DLC should have at least been free.

@originaljohn No. And I don't think it will.
  • Widge #8 5 months ago

@RobertChicken 2.0 was free, that was the overhaul patch. There is a feature on it somewhere on here.

@Widge (My Irritation is toward Polyphony - I AM NOT A TROLLING BTW) Okay. But this was a major overhaul to the game around a YEAR later, anyway my point is I got this game day one and it was a huge dissapointment, I haven't bothered trying to get all the patches - due to a slow connection - but why should us as consumers have to put up w/this sort of treatment?

Compare the GT5 DLC packs to the two car packs for Forza released so far, and you can tell which devs are really passionate about cars. ANOTHER GTR? Two VW's? A Mini? Are people really gonna pay $4 for slightly different versions of cars that are more or less in the game already?

Played a couple of races online last night. Well, one anyway as the second one crashing whilst loading. How about sorting these sorts of issues out Polyphony?

@Alexwise thanks for letting me know that. It's a bummer, I wanted to get my dad this for xmas. He's a big porsche fan.

gt5 was great on release, not an absolute plonker, sure it was archaic in interface and a littl eunpolished in parts and sure it certainly fell way short of the hype but eg gavi it a 9 ffs and it remains the gt game ive most played by a long way, i have nt even tried it since the updates but you cant fault the devs for supporting this long after the game has sold its millions, that shows a passion fot their work.

    Oh...seattle circuit please.

@djronz. As we all are entitled to think whatever we want to I have to disagree with the game being "great on release", for me the games cons greatly outweighed the positives. And correct me if I am wrong but most fixes for the game took a while before they were released on top of the lengthy production time. One last thing I drive a (relatively) slow car - it's a 1.3L Mazda 2, in the game such a car feels much slower than it really is. Also consider the fact that you have to tune something like a Ferrari 458 to the max for it to feel as if it is actually a quick car, and there you have one of the games major problems. Games should be fun! Not annoy the life out of you with their faults.

@RobertChicken How the hell are Polphony a bad developer? the game came out ages ago and they're still upadting it and providing new content, also 4 quid is hardly a big price to pay...enjoy your Forza 4 arcade faggot
  • RobertChicken #16 5 months ago

@Totza Wow what a constructive comment! Thanks so much for joining the conversation :)

Although (I personally prefer) Forza, I really recommend downloading the spec 2 update for GT5, it adds a lot off new stuff and really makes a difference.

Its unfortunate that you could ntt see past its faults and enjoy the sublime driving experience that gt5 provides, believe me when i say driving an in game audit tt  is about as close to the feel of driving a reel one as current tech will allow.

also gt does nt exaggerate speed, the scale of the in game speed is correct but with out real world cues such as g forces and periferal vision it will appear slower. Next time you drive just see how slowly an approaching land mark takes to pass you, compare that to most "realistic" driving games.
