Google Street View turned into an FPS

Ad firm lets you turn an assault rifle on your hometown.

Google Street View has been transformed into a distinctly ghoulish first person shooter by a Dutch ad firm.

As reported by VentureBeat, Google Shoot View, the brainchild of Pool Worldwide, lets you roam the streets of your hometown blasting away at passers-by with an M4A1 assault rifle.

Pool hasn't figured out a way to make people actually keel over on-screen when shot at, but it's the thought that counts, right?

Pool's website currently seems to be out of action, so you'll have to make do with the Battlefield 3-aping trailer below for the time being.

I don't have a problem with shooting avatars with your friends faces on, in real world settings in game. There's no more of an argument against this as there is against paintball or lazer quest.

Wow -- all this fuss over a Google Map overlay.! Perhaps the idea could work if you had other players represented though you'd still need to add collision for the buildings. Maybe "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego : Street Walker Edition" where you walk around a city to all the landmarks to get clues?

You lot have no imagination, the ability to use Streetmap in game will potentially save massive amounts of cash in the development process. Wasn't Realtime Worlds doing something along these lines before it went bust ? Possibly the same tech ?
