Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 rating spotted

Suggests release isn't far away.

A rating for Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 has been spotted, suggesting a release in the near future.

The Korean Game Rating Board just rated the downloadable sequel, and, as Siliconera notes, ratings usually appear a few months before a game's release. A rating for fellow Sega game Anarchy Reigns also appeared today - that game launches in January 2012.

Little is known about Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2, the sequel to the excellent 2010 game Episode 1. But we do know it's due out in 2012.

"This year, 2011, is the anniversary, so we're focusing on the celebration title," Sonic Team's Takashi Iikuza told Eurogamer in August. "But moving forward to 2012, Sonic will still be going, so I'd hope to provide Episode 2 then."

Sega declined to comment when contacted by Eurogamer.

Episodic games should not have 2 years between releases. The point of having episodes is that they're shorter and therefore get released more quickly. See Telltale for the ONLY company who actually understands episodic gaming. If you're going to release an episode every 2 years you may as well just make a full game.

Valve also need to take note.

The first episode was really bad. They buggered up the velocity, the jumping felt wierd, the whole thing was a mess. Sonic generations was spot on, so maybe they have learnt a few things.

@reelbigkris I wouldn't say it was spot on (Christ, they even gave you the original Sonic as an unlockable and painful comparison), but it was certainly better.

enjoyed the first one, but episodic games should release faster than this, yes i'm looking at you valve.

@sonicyoda Well maybe spot on was tooe ager, I was very impressed with it though. I didn't get a copy of the original sonic with mine as I got the PC version... Frame rate is lovely with a decent PC, they need to be 60fps on the consoles aswell because of the speed!

Indeed Eurogamer were the only ones who thought it "excellent". Velocity and momentum physics were appalling and ruined it.

Yeah gotta say, despite the shonky physics, I enjoyed the first one too.

As a longtime Sonic fan it is a shame that you expect rubbish nowadays, and are pleasantly suprised when it turns out 'alright' - but I thought that apart from the dick final boss, Episode One was largely enjoyable, and if the jump and spin dash mechanics had been spot on, we'd have been looking at a real return to form, because the stage design was without exception actually rather great.

It is just a shame that those mechanics seem to be beyond Sonic Team to get right; despite how much better it was, Generations was still 'wrong' feeling, and I don't think they're ever going to recapture it.

Music in Sonic 4 was awesome though.

I enjoyed Episode 1 and didn't have a problem with the controls or physics. My only issue was with the length of it.

Then again, as a long term Sonic fan, I've experienced worse :)

Pity there's no more reader reviews, would have been tempted to write another longing letter to Sonic if this turned out alright...

Thought the first episode was average at best. I mean, whoever thought of putting that bloody torch puzzle in the middle of a Sonic game should be stopped from designing levels ever again.
