Test Drive: Ferrari announced

New racer takes to the track in March.

Test Drive: Ferrari launches in Europe on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on 30th March, distributor Bigben Interactive has announced.

No gameplay details have been revealed yet, and it's not known who is developing. However, speculation points to this being Need For Speed: Shift developer Slightly Mad Studios' long-rumoured Ferrari game.

Blimey! Games, which Slightly Mad acquired back in 2009, had a licensed Ferrari title in the works, which was then reportedly held up by legal wranglings.

When quizzed on the No Grip forum as to the game's status back in August, Slightly Mad's head of development Ian Bell replied, "On the Ferrari game, expect some interesting news very soon."

We've asked the UK-based studio to confirm or deny and will update when we hear back.

The last entry in the Test Drive series, Test Drive: Unlimited 2, was published by Atari back in February.

Bigben will distribute the game in France, Benelux and Germany. Publishing and distribution plans for the UK and US are yet to be confirmed.

Great news if it is the Slightly Mad title, I always had the impression it might be a spiritual successor to Race Pro (criminally overlooked by just about everyone) but assumed it had long been canned.

It's a TD title, and after the last pile of shite that was TDU2 - count me out. They'll get no money out of me till they finish TDU2.

I loved TDU2 but that was Eden Games. Are they still with us?

They should have retired the Test Drive franchise IMO after the TDU2 fiasco. Who's really going to buy it at launch after what happened before.

Bigben Interactive will release the title in most major European countries besides the United Kingdom on March 30, 2012. It will be available on PS3™/Xbox360™/PC.

    Now, why might that be?

TDU 2 was and continues to be a disaster. Wheres the promised bike DLC for example? No more TD for me thanks.

Since it's a new dev I do wish them luck, but anything carrying the Test Drive name after TDU2 is asking for trouble. Plus launching so close to Mass Effect 3? Great idea...

I am enjoying TDU2 quite a bit but it does fall short on pretty much everything it is supposed to be. I might be the exception because all I care about is driving around the islands to relax. I never touched any of the house customization, clothes or any other social features and I'm not even in particular looking for races. I do the challenges to get a bit of money but they are quite boring. TDU was the better game but TDU2 is, at least for what I want from the game, fine - still a massive failure for what it was supposed to be though.

TDU2 tweeted the other day that the PS3 patch was finally out.Months and months after everybody else had got it.I tweeted back they should be ashamed of themselves. And I am an Xbox owner.Atari were the real monster, with Eden games just putting 2 & 2 together and making 5.

I loved TDU but TDU2 was indeed complete and utter trash. They went from a fairly solid driving model with very good wheel implementation and force feedback in the first game (I played the PC version with a G25) to the worst steering wheel implementation I've ever come across in the second.

That alone ruined the game to the point where I wasn't even really able to focus on discerning whether the rest of the game might be decent. Controls and handling model will make or break a racing game - no matter if it's a sim or an arcade racer. TDU2 was neither, it was simply a disaster.
