Rage PS3 and Xbox 360 demo release dates

A mere 2GB from XBL.

Update: When quizzed about a Rage demo for PC, Hines - on Twitter - answered:

"We are working on something for the PC as well. Steam allows us to do some things differently than we can do on console."

Original story: Bethesda has released a Rage demo for Xbox 360 on Xbox Live Marketplace.

The downloadable file is 2.03GB.

Bethesda's Pete Hines described the contents on Twitter: "Play the Well mission, explore Wellspring, play mini-games, try some of the races."

A PS3 Rage demo will follow on 6th December.

Eurogamer's Rage review awarded 8/10. "It's not going to change the world," declared reviewer Tom Bramwell, "but it does serve as a timely reminder of that other thing id Software games always did besides smashing through some new technological barrier. They made shooting things fun, and it's nice to have that back."

Eurogamer plays Rage. And talks about it.

Right in time for the bargain bin, and it's only 1/6 of the Old Republic installation!

I find myself avoiding some demos of both retail and XBLA stuff just because the file size is getting ridiculous. Even with 40gb usage I don't want to have to worry if I'm going over my ISP limit or not...

I eneded up cancelling my pre-order due to being a bit skint, glad I did though, seen it for 17.99 online the other day

I've been avoiding downloading demo's for the same reason as BT has hit me with charges a couple of times for going over my limit.

interested.. but gold exclusive? forget it then
  • Tallon4 #6 6 months ago

    A bit late innit?
  • ThrowingTuba #7 6 months ago

This is crazy, could they not get this out the door prior to launch.

As Cowley mentioned, you can get this new for £17.99 now.

Why didn't they release this in the New Year?

    @CatWeazle
when have demos not been exclusive to gold members on live?????
great game, most fun.I've had shooting stuff in years

A great free gift for people with insomnia. Played the 360 version for about 5 hours and I thought it was as exciting as watching a recently painted wall dry.

I'm fully expecting this to go for 9.99 in this year's Steam Sale.

I thought the full product was a demo for id Tech 5?
  • PoundHound #12 6 months ago

@kirankara - agreed. Despite a slow start the game blossomed into my favourite shooter, not just of this year, but for the last few. It was a blast.

I thought a demo couldn't happen? Probably the sales figures forcing them to.
  • v.profane #14 6 months ago

But no PC demo despite the fact that PC games traditionally sell for longer after the launch period. Is any 360/PS3 owner that tries the demo and likes it NOT going to buy it second hand?

@ulov3 Yes, sales have been disappointing so that's why there is a demo. It's a decent enough game that deserves to sell more copies.
  • mashk #16 6 months ago

Might give it a go. It still runs crap on my PC.

I think they could pick up quite a lot of extra sales from a PS3/360 demo if they add a brief video tutorial for the menus, weapons and car upgrades, lock grinders, etc.

Anyone that typically plays exclusives or multi platform games at Assassin's Creeds' polish will definitely feeling like they've gone back to PC gaming in 1999 without such info.

I've gone back to playing Rage (hard mode) since finishing UC3 on crushing; and once I got past the first five or six hours and accepted the game's convoluted menu and control quirks, it really is a stunning looking, fluid and meaty 60fps shooter and with an enjoyable story once it gets going.

I've also made a small upgrade to my PS3 250GB slim since, with the 500GB (5400rpm) travelstar drive I bought for my original PS3 linux, to gain an extra couple of MBps read and write IO (as shown in the linux benchmark) compared to the original 250GB (5400rpm) travelstar that shipped in my slim.

Since the upgraded HDD, the pop up has disappeared when playing, even when turning around or going up and down ladders, it now only shows brief pop up at the start of a new world section; after loading a new section, and then it is gone.

Imo Rage is a game that just needed the exclusive first party polish (mocapping, character's back stories fleshed out) to make it all it could be as a game.

@ulov3 clearly you.dont fit their customer demographic then!
i thought braid was clever, but ultimately dull, whilst limbo was just plain dull.

amazing that people have different tastes isn't it???
    oh right!, it really isn't!

Rage Smage... really disappointing game which I foolishly spent hard earned cash on week of release!
