New Dizzy game in the works

A new game in the Dizzy series is set for an announcement after Codemasters launched a teaser website and video.

eggcitingnews.com launched today and a teaser video on a new YouTube channel called eggcitingnews was released.

Dizzy is an adventure platform series designed by Blitz Game Studios' Philip and Andrew Oliver. The first game, Dizzy - The Ultimate Cartoon Adventure, launched in 1986.

Dizzy is an odd egg-like creature who often has to save his chums the Yolkfolk from the evil wizard Zaks.

Codemasters is yet to reveal which platforms this new Dizzy game is for, or announce gameplay details. An announcement is expected soon.

My reaction: YES!!! Dizzy never deserved to fade into obscurity

My worries: Dizzy is going to look stupid in the transition to 3D/2011. There's also a good chance any new game will be naff.

But what if it isn't...

A new Dizzy game? I cracked up when I first saw this - I thought you were yolking! I guess it could be all white, maybe I've gone soft in my old age but if they reinvent this as something more hardboiled, I think its chances will be scrambled. But don't listen to me, I'm fried.

There's no way in hell this will be anything other than a PSN/XBLA/WiiWare game, or at worst, a port of one or more of the Amiga games.

EDIT: smh@negggers - what, you think this will be a fullblown retail release? I'm really looking forward to this, but I doubt it'll be anything more than a re-release or a PSN/XBLA/Wiiware game. Not really hoping for a 3D game either, considering how Spy vs Spy turned out (cult-classics).

Along with Julian Gollop's Chaos, Dizzy was the best game I remember getting from the tapes that came wth Your Sinclair. Loved the game but as LazyDan says, its probably going to be pants.

Didn't enjoy the Dizzy games that much first time around, now then does anyone remember TimeBandits by Microdeal? Game was for the Amiga / Atari 512ST, now that was a class game.

Game dev trivia.

The reason Dizzy is an egg is that the Oliver bros wanted a character with a recognisable face, but the only way to make the face distinctive enough (save making the character physically bigger, which I guess isn't ideal in a platform game of this type) to satisfy their needs with the pixel resolution available was to make the face as big as the whole body, and after that making him an egg seemed a logical step.

I completed Treasure Island Dizzy back in the day, in an era where save games didn't exist. All you had was mental notes and plenty of free time.

Dizzy looked like fun, but the only one I could reliably get to work on the Spectrum we had was Kwik Snax which wasn't really the same as the other Dizzy games.

Edit: Negged for not being able to get Dizzy games running on a Spectrum when I was ten? Brutal.

My childhood just came rushing back to me. I've still got all my Dizzy games on the old Speccy +2, in fact I can see my Dizzy Collection boxset from where I'm sat right now.

So long as it's the same forumla as the likes of Dizzy/Treasure Island/Fantasy World/Magicland etc, then it's a day one purchase for me. If it turns out to be another Fast Food, then Codemasters can fuck off.

OMG, I had all of the Dizzy games on C64 / Amiga...
The fact that he's back gives me fuzzy feelings and the memories will ALWAYS live on (I played Dizzy on my C64 emulator recently on my phone) let's just say 'rose-tinted glasses'...but still... reminds me of being a kid again...

I hope this is an XBLA/ PSN/ Steam title. That way, there'll be no pressure to "modernise" it too drastically: keep it 2D, keep it flip-screen, maybe add optional hand-drawn graphics that can be swapped for a pixellated look at the touch of a button, like the Monkey Island re-releases did.

The trailer is fake tough..
We all know that Codemasters hasn't the source-material for the old Dizzy-games, except a C64 one..
But cool concept, blowing of the dust of an old franchise..

Dizzy was one of the first gaming IPs I was ever into, back in the early 90s playing on my sisters Spectrum 48k+. My first encounter was on a Crash demo tape, the prequel to Magicland Dizzy. I remember getting a box set of most of the games for Christmas.

For me, Dizzy really is where my gaming hobby really began.

I ought to be excited, instead all I can think is "Please, please dont shit all over my memories."
