"Comprehensive" new Brink update detailed

Clan support, ladders and tournaments incoming.

A hefty new Brink update due out soon brings full clan support and tournament features to Splash Damage's shooter, the developer has announced.

As detailed on its official blog, you'll be able to create and manage a clan from its new Clans & Tournaments Beta Site.

Once you've registered a clan, you'll be able to access various stats, such as your current ranking, wins and losses, and upcoming match schedule. You'll be able to invite others to join your squad, toggle your Clan's recruitment status, review applications and manage member privileges.

The update also brings with it the Global Clan Ladder which will rank all clans in order, letting users set up matches with opponents of a similar skill level. Once you've set up a match, invitations will automatically be sent out to all participating players.

There'll also be tournaments to register for, each with a specific rule set.

No word yet on exactly when all this goes live, but apparently the update "is currently in the final stages of testing and will be pushed out to the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and the PC version of Brink as soon as that is complete."

I hope this brings added improvements to those still playing Brink, but I traded it in a month after purchase as it was a mess.

This update sounds like an 8/10 to me. How about you EG. . . . . ?

was gonna say, I wonder how many people are even playing this to care about an update. I liked the game, but it was a mess and everyone was abandoning ship fast, especially once the hmv la noire offer arose, so i abandoned ship too, and decided to see what the future held, but in reality, I knew that it was kinda doomed.

Sounds good! I still love Brink, and Splash Damage are great to still support it in spite of the ridiculous amount of vitriol it recieves.

This was a bag choke full of hot air and empty promises.

I cry for the Splash Damage that made W:ET.

The two aren't related, but it's a shame that Zyklon B likes Brink - he's named after the gas used to kill Jews in WWII.

    Classy.

Is this the patch that makes it run at acceptable framerates on ATI cards?

does this allow you to play 8v8? Y'know - like you're supposed to be able to, without any lag....

What about the graphics and controller lag? Gonna pretend that doesn't exist, Bethesda? That's what i thought
  • efebayor #11 6 months ago

There are less than 429 people playing it on Steam. Awful game.

Seriously, what hold do the Brink developers have over Eurogamer? Ignoring the tragically horrible 8/10 review, there seems to be an inordinate amount of coverage for what is a poor game with a miniscule userbase.

This comprehensive update includes features that should have been part of the game on release.

I had high hopes for Brink before release, once I had it however it lasted approximately six days before being traded in. It intrigued me when they boasted of seamless single and multiplayer modes. It's a shame that what they actually meant was single player is multiplayer, with bots.

Overall it was, and still seems to be, a completely half baked game.

Does the patch adjust the EG review score to the correct 4/10 that it was meant to have when released?

What use is a clan ladder when no one plays the game? thats not a comprehensive update, thats a dillusional update. EG please dont report any more Brink *cough* news unless it goes along the lines of "Splash Damage realise they really did need dedicated servers on consoles!".
