First Vita US bundle goes on sale early

Little Deviants pack available from 15th February.

The first PlayStation Vita bundle for North America will go on sale a week early, Sony has announced.

Priced at $349.99 (around £217), the pack includes the 3G model of the new handheld, a limited edition case, a 4GB memory card and a copy of Little Deviants. The standard 3G model will sell for $299.99.

As detailed on the PlayStation Blog, it'll be available from 15th February - a week ahead of the general release date - from select retailers, with pre-orders kicking off today.

The Vita is due to go on sale in the UK from 22nd February. We're in touch with Sony Europe to find out if it intends to run a similar early-bird offer.

Their bundle is cheaper than our actual console? Well, that makes sense.

In other words, "get the really shit game out with an early-release bundle so we can claim it has sold well"

4gb memory card? Welcome to 2005! Reminds me of the colossal 32mb memory card they gave out with the launch PSP...

If I could get this for £217 in the UK, you could count me in!

More likely similar will be like £317 here in which case count me out!

I think you mean £349. Sony seem to think that 1:1 conversion rates from dollars to pounds is a fair one.

Its a download only game anyway, and we never get to find out the sales figures on download games.

Name any PS products that are 1:1 $ to £

While we often/usually don't get fantastic prices here in Europe, it should be pointed out that US retailers don't include sales tax in advertised prices as happens over here. That difference helps to explain some, though not all, of the price differences between Europe and the US.

the memory card situation is a deal breaker as far as I'm concerned. I have to pay extra to be able to BUY content online? A proprietary, exclusive storage format too?

There's a new WipEout, but even then, FUCK YOU SONY.

I'd love to see this in Europe, but it'll presumably be delayed unexpectedly for several months in localisation purgatory.

@Lollage - I thought that every Vita would come with a (small capacity) memory card in much the same way that every PSP came with a memory stick?

Anyone able to confirm (or not)?

Over two decades of failed propietary formats and Sony still insists on using them.

Bad for the consumer, expensive for the manufacturer, and generally just shit all round.

@dark, it's very clearly a money spinner, I sort of get it though. Seems like a good way to keep the hardware cost down at launch and generate a bit of profit. I reckon another model will come out later with internal memory.

If you happen to own a smartphone with wifi tethering you can save some money buying the wifi only model.

Clever. Get the console out early, include a game very few people would buy, make it the money-spinning 3G version, and pack in a memory card that any serious player is going to have to replace later.

Maybe not exactly consumer-friendly, but clever.

£217 plus UK standard 20% tax you are looking around £260 for this bundle in the UK... each of the fifty US states are allowed to set their own tax figure so this is why the US advertise like this.

Oh please i am sick and tired of hearing people from the UK complain about their pound, the inflation(for all the bad it has done) still gives you a edge on foreign prices.

In The Netherlands we get the straight 1:1 ratio from $, we don't have large supermarket stores giving discount and our gameshops give us about 15-20 euro on new games for trade ins(15-20 euro on games in their store that is)

I would rather shell out the extra sum than having to turn on the wifi sharing on my phone everytime im out. Plus, it drains the phones battery alot faster, and it's ofc clumsy. 3G model all the way for me, can't wait :-]

I think it is unfair not to include at least a small memory card seeing as it is instrumental to playing games.
