Some copies of the PC version of Deus Ex: Human Revolution are being shipped without correct Steam authentication codes - rendering the stealth action title unplayable.
Gamers have reported that copies of the Eidos Montreal-developed game bought from The Hut and Zavvi include codes that Steam does not recognise.
Eurogamer reader "ectotropic" alerted us to the situation, pointing towards a Steampowered thread that reveals a widespread issue.
"I bought a brand new copy of Deus Ex: HR (Limited Edition) from Zavvi," ectotropic said. "It arrived on Saturday but when I went to install on Steam it says, 'Please first activate original game'."
When quizzed by Eurogamer The Hut Group, which runs Zavvi and The Hut, said it had launched an investigation.
"We are investigating this and will have a solution ASAP," a spokesperson promised.
