FIFA 12 console patch in 2-3 weeks

Will make "big corrections".

EA will release a patch for the console versions of FIFA 12 in two to three weeks.

It will implement "big corrections", senior community manager Romily Broad revealed on the latest episode of the FIFA 12 podcast.

Sooner than that, EA will issue a fix for FIFA Ultimate Team, the add-on experience that's played on the internet and within the main game.

FUT has been criticised by some fans who are unable to access it. Broad said EA was deliberately capping the web app as it waits for the huge spike of launch period players to settle down.

EA also plans to correct a number of issues with the PC version of the game, including unnecessarily large downloads and disconnects associated with Origin.

Separate to all of this, though, is the thorny issue of goalkeepers in Head to Head Seasons mode - the new ranked online gameplay system for FIFA 12.

Online, you're able to control your team's goalkeeper, leaving the skilled AI to handle the outfield players.

"People seem to be exploiting this," Broad said. "If they're not very good at defending they can use this to get an unfair advantage.

"People who are very good at the game won't have a problem. They'll just be able to pass it around your defenders and you'll find yourself one-on-one with their top strikers every time.

"But that's something we've got under review. If we think the vast majority of people hate it we'll do something about it.

"I can't tell you any more than that. I can't tell you when that might happen, but we're reviewing all the feedback from people. We're looking especially, even harder, at the game telemetry. If you go to our forums and hear everyone saying the same thing, that's great, but you can't just rely on that because the people who haven't got a problem with it aren't talking. So we need to figure out what they're doing as well.

"We're looking at all of that stuff and we're going to make a call on that. But just so you know, if you've got a problem with that, we're looking at it. It's a very serious thing we're looking at."

Broad said EA was committed to updating FIFA 12 more frequently than it did with any previous FIFA game, and will do so throughout the season.

"The general message is we're looking at all of this stuff and we're going to be fixing them very, very soon," he said.

"Things are different with FIFA 12. The first patch for the console is going to be coming out within days, like maybe 14 or 21 of them. Two or three weeks from now the first patch will happen and that's going to make big corrections to some of the things that are bothering people the most.

"We're going to be doing this constantly, with our thumbs in the middle of the community trying to get people to tell us what they think, and then we'll be acting on it for the rest of the season.

"That's a commitment we're definitely making. It would be nice if people came and talked to us about the things that are bothering them, because we are going to be listening."

I hope they fix the issue with the EA servers disconnecting you mid-game and awarding the win to your opponent, saddling you with a DNF%

That's a lot of talk without actually saying anything.

Are they going to make it less boring?
  • BigDaddy82 #5 8 months ago

    @EddieMink

Actually its a genuine issue, it doesn't happen that often though. It'll probably happen to you at some point, kinda hope it does :)

Maybe I'll be able to foul when I slide tackle after the update...

Just remove the Origin integration completely please as it's annoying when you start FIFA 12 for both the launcher and the ugly Origin window to pop up simultaneously. FIFA 11 never used the clunky Origin so why does FIFA 12 need to?

Still can't connect to their server because of some account issue that is all over their forums...

P.S. When I initially tried to install FIFA 12 from the DVD, Origin decided rather than use the data off the disc it would download the entire 6.5 GB instead. I managed to get it to install after a couple of tries but this is exactly the same kind of crap that sometimes happens with Steamworks titles when I try to install them from disc as well.

And why is Origin still in beta... anyone know? Surely it should be finalised by now considering EA are forcing it on PC users for FIFA 12 and the forthcoming Battlefield 3?

Hows about a patch where they refund you the 40 quid which drops out your tv once downloaded to go spend on PES next week

Their definition of 'within days' is a bit loose isn't it? Within days means like 2,3 maybe 4 days not 'like maybe 14 or 21 of them,' which most normal people would probably describe as within weeks. Explains why it used to take them so long to post anything on the forums when they'd say they would update the list of fixes 'within days'

Allow me to fix the headline:

"FIFA 12 console patch in 12 months"

This happens every year with Fifa. It happened last year, the year before that, the year before that....the same sort of bugs seem to make it into Fifa every year, such as the players disappearing bug, the freezing issue and online problems. I haven't bought it this year and probably won't at all. This has been going on since Fifa 08. This is an EA problem. The last two Fight Night games have suffered from some terrible bugs and EA have always been slow to correct them.

What's this I am hearing? A gaming franchise with enforced yearly updates being released in an unfinished state?

    Never.
  • ZizouFC #16 8 months ago

Hope they don't make changes to the career mode that will force me to start over....

    Or to the defending...
  • dsmx #17 8 months ago

This is why you don't buy FIFA at launch because it is always riddled with bugs which don't get mentioned in reviews.

Being able to choose legacy mode defending online would be nice. My gammy-arm can't handle the physical dexterity required for the new defensive system.
  • Xs1ght #19 8 months ago

I don't think legacy defending should be available online @Luckyjim, while I do agree that the new system makes the game a bit boring as you can't be as open and expansive as FIFA 11, using the old system seems like cheating in a way. Should be one way for everyone to make it truly fair..
  • norsende #20 8 months ago

I doubt fixing the gameplay is out of reach for simple patches :(

Here's hoping they can at least fix the referee so he would whistle at least something else than the most brutal fouls.
  • MrChuckles #21 8 months ago

I was crap at defending with the old system and equally crap in the new one. Just hold RB now and run around with another player trying to cut off passes and hope the offensive AI doesn't outwit your defensive AI. Oh for the days of sensible soccer when i could defend with the best of them.
  • higgins78 #22 8 months ago

A game this gen released in an unfinished state? I never would have believed it if I hadnt read it...

    Give me a break!
  • FeralYouth #23 8 months ago

Find it hard to believe that they're capable of doing too much really considering that there's a Euro 2012 game coming out next year that needs to be focused on..

Anyway how about reducing the bullshit A.I in World Class mode, which only serves to create a FRUSTRATING experience. Or hey, actually have the sliders work when playing in world class. You reduce the A.I's speed and acceleration to zero, yet when in World class the A.I is still able to out run you. Also get rid of the magnetic field that seems to be around the players once you up the game difficulty to World Class. Also not having the A.I to be able to turn on a two pence would make the whole tactical defending, you know tactical. Tactical defending is great against another human, but against the A.I on world class, pointless.
Fifa 12 is a great football game, ultimately let down by near faultless A.I. The sliders are great, but they don't work at all where they are really needed, and that's at the higher difficulties.

There's practically zero chance of this being corrected.

Fix the mandatory New Defence system for ranked online games FFS and give us the option to choose.
  • MakeYourself #25 8 months ago

I seriously don't get why everyone is complaining about the new defending system. I've always been a Pro fan myself but usually play FIFA when going around my mates. I've played the new one quite a lot and I have to admit it's actually really good. The defending works really well, I picked it up within 2 games even though I rarely play FIFA. Anyone complaining about this system must just really suck at football games.

And where was all this listening when Fifa 10 was crippled in manager mode? Better late than never I guess but you are still not forgiven.
  • reeferchief #27 8 months ago

They should finish the player impact engine so it stops resulting in some of the ludicrous collisions that happen and also the referees could do with being a little smarter, I've seen players get crippled and injured for weeks from horrific tackles that go unpunished, whilst the slightest jostle for the ball can produce yellow cards, just a minute or so apart in the same game.:/

Asides from that though pretty darn addicted to Ultimate team, even though I keep getting my arse handed to me.
