Treyarch bringing COD to a "new console"
Vita? Wii U? Next gen?
Treyarch is working on a version of Call of Duty for "a new console", according to a recent recruitment call.
A job ad on its website calling for a senior software engineer, as reported by GameSpot, states the successful applicant will join "the team bringing our hugely successful game to a new console."
It doesn't give much else away, other than that the role includes adapting "graphics and other major systems in our engine to a new platform".
Treyarch expects candidates to have experience on the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360.
A Vita, 3DS and/or Wii U port of their next effort all seem like safe bets, but perhaps the studio has already upped tools on the next round of hardware from Microsoft and Sony.
The Black Ops developer hasn't announced details of its next Call of Duty title but, providing it stays true to past form, expect it to launch in November 2012.

But they might possibly be working on a next-gen engine and game. I still think it's a couple years off yet... at least. But these things do take time. And they'll of course want it to be a top-quality product.
Oh crud, I got through that with a straight face! *slaps self*

Its hardly surprising Activision will put any game making loads of profit on pretty much any format they can, just look at GH franchise.

It will be multiformat, but whichever console is first from Sony or Microsoft, will have an effective time limited exclusive. Imagine the sheer sales impact of having the next gen COD exclusive at launch? That would be worth millions.
I'd guess that the development cycle of the game would be pretty long compared to previous efforts, with 2013 Xmas a target date, which would fit with rumours of next gen console announcements next year around E3, with launches following the year after, after another E3.
Then in 2014 Infinity Ward can make a good game

This is a PSvita and WiiU port job, no doubt about it.
*EDIT*
To the guy above me, IW has not the means to take the genre forward anymore. If we're going by MW3, they'll be playing it safe for years to come. More than Half of the studio is gone, you could say only the janitors and the guys from sledgehammer are left.
Not only that, but these 1 year development cycles ensure that they will only ever have the means to dedicate their time to producing the next game, never actually significantly evolving anything of note besides aesthetics. And while that may get them by for now, in a few years it won't.

Remember Wii U isn't out yet, and the thing could easily do badly against the competition. Besides, Nintendo will still have crappy online infrastructure as always, which won't fill Activision with confidence for COD online on Wii U.
