Portal 2 Peer Review DLC is 1.37GB

Out now on XBLA.

The Portal 2 Peer Review DLC has been released on Xbox Live Arcade.

It's free.

It measures 1.37GB.

Peer Review follows the two loveable robots Body and Atlas as they try to out-fox GLaDOS through a new co-op test track. Silly old circuit-boards.

Eurogamer's Portal 2 reviewer Oli Welsh hailed Valve's game as a "masterpiece" earlier this year.

"Portal is perfect," he said. "Portal 2 is not."

"It's something better than that. It's human: hot-blooded, silly, poignant, irreverent, base, ingenious and loving. It's never less than a pure video game, but it's often more, and it will no doubt stand as one of the best entertainments in any medium at the end of this year. It's a masterpiece."

    It's like saying something is more than 100%. No it's not!

    Although I'd say Portal 2 is 99%!

    Why Arcade ? It's not an XBLA release, it's a DLC.

    for a review 1.37 seems a low score.
  • WeakOrbit #5 8 months ago

    P-Body not Body. Sorry to nit pick.
  • AnsemsApprentice #6 8 months ago

    Who cares about the score? Don't be so shallow.

    Oh em gee, it's currently at 91 on Metacritic.

    "I wonder how they convinced MS to release it for free when they couldn't release L4DLC for free".

    Portal 2 came out on PS3 as well, and the DLC is also due on PSN. MS didn't want to be seen as the only one charging.

    Lets hope Left 4 Dead 3 comes out on both machines.

    Blimey, sounds very substantial for DLC :)
  • Nanocrystal #12 8 months ago

    Any new single-player content in this DLC at all?
  • GamesProgrammer Verified Games Team Programmer, Eutechnyx Ltd. #13 8 months ago

    @vamos

    Prolly very easy to convince them, as it will be free on PSN as it will just update through steam, Im sure they didnt want to look like the only dicks charging for console DLC.

    It's like saying something is more than 100%. No it's not!

    It's quite possible to have something that's more than 100%. Footballers are regularly recorded as having given 110% or more.
  • arcam #15 8 months ago

    @Nanocrystal

    It brings Challenge Mode for single player. Hours of fun/frustration :)
  • rob_of_the_robots #16 8 months ago

    1.37GB of free! \o/
  • Roland_D11 #17 8 months ago

    @WiseNail

    MS policy is that the first DLC can be free, any following DLC must have a price tag. So there was no need for convincing, but if Valve wants a second free DLC on XBL, it could get difficult.

    "if you're not paying for something, you're not the customer; you're the product being sold"
  • Mister-Wario #19 8 months ago

    So who are we being sold to in this case?
  • Eraserhead #20 8 months ago

    Oh yes, it may be free, but who's paying for the broadband connection to download it, eh? Me! Those BASTARDS.

    I demand this DLC on a free disc. No hang on, I demand someone from Valve comes round and installs from disc onto my PC. While I'm out at work, obviously.
  • WiseNail #21 8 months ago

    @Roland_D11

    You're right in what you say, however there are plenty of articles on the net quoting Gabe Newell suggesting MS have to be more flexible on their approach to DLC going forward.

    "Gabe very pointedly noted that PS3 would offer the 'best console experience' for Portal 2, and the game sold very, very well on the PS3. Sony allowed Steam integration, which enables free updates. Microsoft was going to have to tell their Gold members that they were paying annual subscription fees for the privilege of being the only users who have to pay for their DLC. No more leverage for Microsoft.

    Microsoft don't have to charge for the first DLC, but Sony not charging puts more pressure on them to follow suit.

    Has this shown up on PC yet? Will it be waiting for me when I get back?
  • Dizzy #25 8 months ago

    Wasn't the whole point of Steamworks on PS3 to be able to offer stuff easier, faster and not deal with MS certification Valve??? So why does 360 get it first?

    /downloads DLC
  • Ryboy #26 8 months ago

    Very unlike Valve to put this out on failsoles first.
  • geeza2020 #27 8 months ago

    hohoho, look one of them jumped out of the petri dish! And it said "failsoles", heeheehee
  • Spazdarn #28 8 months ago

    I enjoyed Portal and Portal 2 thoroughly but I wasn't overawed by it... I didn't get that feeling I got when I first played Half Life, so a good game it is, a 90% game? I dunno, just not feeling it.
  • arcam #29 8 months ago

    @Spazdarn

    I got that feeling from Portal. Portal 2, not so much.
  • doctormackerel #30 8 months ago

    EG - It's now out on PC too. Steam is downloading ~1.4GB of Portal stuff as I type this. Glee!
  • M83J01P97 #31 8 months ago

    Disappointed by this.

    As fun as the co-op mode is, it would have been nice to have something a bit more substantial in single player mode. The Challenge Mode is just a leaderboard stuck onto a few random sections of the existing game, nothing new at all.

    New puzzle rooms to play through like Portal: Still Alive had would have been much more welcome.

    But I guess you get what you pay for... it being free and all :p
  • uknortherner2000 #32 8 months ago

    Same here. I was hoping for some more SP content as I have yet to bother with the co-op stuff. I was also expecting to find an easy way to import and play user-created content but there still doesn't appear to be any (PC version).
  • Zander #33 8 months ago

    Portal better than Portal 2 anyone?
  • Rack #34 8 months ago

    That's a misapplication of a nice concept El Pollo, we're the revenue stream and therefore we're the customers. The point is to convince stragglers to pick this up, discourage second hand sales and encourage repeat custom.
  • higgins78 #35 8 months ago

    Now that is what this dying gaming industry need...MORE DLC! Thank heavens I grew up during the SNES/N64 era and thus have played the very best videogames have to offer, when fun was the key word and when you purchased a game you owned 100% of it and not just a fraction. Games (arguably) look better now as in more realistic but I ask ANYBODY who has been playing videogames over 10-15 years...have games REALLY moved on since back in the day?

    @higgins78

    A resounding...YES!
    You should try playing the Mass Effect, Uncharted, God of War, Super Mario Galaxy, Gears Of War & Portal series and ask yourself that question again :)
  • Mister-Wario #37 8 months ago

    Higgins, this is a free add-on to an excellent game from a company well-renowned for making great games and supporting them with extra content. Look at Team Fortress 2. And to think that no great games exist now anywhere seems pretty short-sighted. I mean, look at Super Mario Galaxy at the very least. And the whole emphasis on fun is still preserved in games like Rage, isn't it?

    Ultimately, things change and adapt. Not every change is for the best: I don't much like the thought of games being deliberately split up to make more money. But to dismiss an entire medium seems to be pretty ignorant, and to automatically praise the likes of the Snes and N64 is ignorant too. I can guarantee for all the great games you played there were many more that were crap, and have not aged well at all. Have you PLAYED Comix Zone?

    @higgins78

    Over 400 million home & portable consoles sold this generation and the gaming industry is dying? Huh??
    Now that's what I call....DENIAL!
