EU PlayStation Store update 28th Sept

Mortal Kombat: Arcade Kollection MIA.

An upscaled version of Resident Evil: Code Veronica headlines this week's PSN Store update. It's available for £15.99.

FIFA 12 arrives to download on Friday - for the privilege of saving yourself a walk to the shops you'll pay £54.99 on PlayStation 3 and £31.99 on PSP.

Battlefield 3's open beta rolls out on Thursday, while gamers can help themselves to PSN-exclusive shooter Rochard, freemium role-player Free Realms and new Dead Nation DLC from today.

There's still no sign of the MIA Mortal Kombat: Arcade Kollection - it arrived on time for its XBLA launch almost a month ago and has yet to materialise on PSN in Europe.

2D adventure Castlevania: Harmony of Despair, out in the US, is also missing.

PSN Plus subscribers get 20 per cent off metal pouring puzzler Mercury hg this week, and Resi Evil: CV for half price.

Anyone who bought Resident Evil 4 HD last week also gets Code Veronica at 50 per cent discount.

But European Plus payers have seemingly missed the glut of Uncharted 2 DLC gifted to US Plus accounts in North America's latest PSN update, alongside new Nathan Drake avatars and themes.

European gamers do get a hefty price drop on Borderlands' Game Of The Year edition though - it's more than half price this week only. Cut from £27.99 to £11.99, it includes the full game plus all four DLC packs: The Zombie Island of Doctor Ned, Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot, The Secret Armory of General Knoxx and Claptrap's New Robot Revolution.

69,99 for a digital copy.... it defies belief that people would actually pay those prices.
  • Zozzilla #2 8 months ago

So...Free Realms isn't actually free any more then? Should it not just be called Realms instead?

Pretty uninspiring line-up all round this week... *plans to continue trying to play Deus Ex on the PS3 instead without sucking at stealth*
  • onyxbox #3 8 months ago

The Borderlands pack is a steal at that price.
  • makeamazing #4 8 months ago

Purchased Borderlands + DLC on play for £14.99, so the digital price is pretty good.

Yeah slightly confused by the Free Realms situation, my kids would probably have given it a go, but with the cost, i wont be recommending they check it out :D
  • captain_Carl #5 8 months ago

Buy Borderlands if you don't have it. Cheaper than anywhere online and a great game. DO IT
  • DavidBoring #6 8 months ago

    wikipedia says:
"The game itself is free to play, although in a job without membership you cannot exceed level 4."
  • patch #7 8 months ago

@Zozzilla, makeamazing I think it's still free, but you can pay a subscription to get additional content. Can't find much better than this page. I won't be downloading it for the Missus as there's a risk I won't get my ps3 back :)
  • [STARS]TyranT #8 8 months ago

No Castlevania irks me no end. Am actually furious as there is no excuse nor reason.

The EU PSN is absolutely fucking useless.
  • GamesProgrammer Verified Games Team Programmer, Eutechnyx Ltd. #9 8 months ago

Free realms is free to play, like all free to play games tho you can choose to pay for extra content
  • Zozzilla #10 8 months ago

Oooh, thanks guys. The contradicting info in the article confused me. =/
  • makeamazing #11 8 months ago

Yeah thanks for the clarification... just waiting for the store to update to take a look :)

Certainly want to gett the Dead Nation DLC... loved playing that game, alot of fun, and the new weapons look awesome.
  • HyperTails #12 8 months ago

*yawn* Glad that there isn't anything there that I want (except Resi, but I won't buy it at that price for a sloppy port).

Just gives me a chance to keep playing Demon's Souls to prepare for next week. Cannot. Bloody. Wait.
  • Scatigno #13 8 months ago

Resi CV X is up on the store as long as you use the SEARCH option. It's not in the regular menus yet.
  • Toothball #14 8 months ago

Borderlands is a great one to have handy for unexpected multiplayer sessions. I ended up with it on Xbox and PC due to sales, and would be quite tempted to go again if I had a PS3.

Does this update post seem to highlight the lack of European content a bit more than usual or is it just me? Sadly it doesn't seem like Sony will be changing it any time soon. Or at all most likely.
  • Cigol #15 8 months ago

£55 for a digital copy of a game you can buy for £25 and people wonder why EA's Origin is viewed with such scepticism on the PC...
  • Dave52 #16 8 months ago

Dead Nation - Road to Devastation FTW...!
  • joelstinton #17 8 months ago

Hope some people try out De Blob 2. Can't complain at that price, especially when it launched at £24 instead of its RPP of £40. 20 quid for that game is a steal.
  • FlipC #18 8 months ago

As mentioned by others here we once again glimpse the future of a monopolistic digital download only market. Sure I could save myself a "walk to the shops" and buy FIFA 12 at £54.99 or I could do exactly the same from Amazon for £12 cheaper. Likewise they too feature Child of Eden £9 cheaper and amusingly at a RRP less than that of the PSN Store.

Ah but then I suppose there's all that added cost in um... someone help me out here.
  • Tiberius_Gracchus #19 8 months ago

Which is the best of all these resident evil HD versions? I would like to get one after being really unimpressed with Resi 5.
  • DreadedWalrus #20 8 months ago

Cigol: Indeed. Crysis 2 was added to Xbox Live's Games on Demand for £50 the other day. The first place I checked online just now was selling it for £25. Although I suppose if you go that way you have the inconvenience of an actual box and a manual, and the burden of being able to sell it on to recoup some of that cost when you're done.

As Mortal Kombat has taken so long to come to PSN, can we have it for free? It's only fair on the consumer. :p
  • kingcrowbar #23 8 months ago

Apparently the Borderlands discount is next week.

Seriously EVERY week there is some screw up on the EU PSN store.
  • Mister-Wario #24 8 months ago

£12 for Borderlands? My god, that is a heck of a deal.

Heh, on another note I actually found a hard copy of Gubble in a charity shop a few months back. *shiver*
  • Miths #25 8 months ago

Is Child of Eden worth the cost? Given what I have been sporadically reading about it - including its brief length - I think I had expected it to be a roughly €10 game, so I was rather surprised to visit the store and see something much closer to the price of a retail game.

I hear it looks great in 3D though, so that's a compelling selling point - assuming it's also a good game of course :).
  • Toothball #26 8 months ago

    @Miths

Child of Eden is a beauty of a game. It doesn't really take long to finish the five levels in there, but the idea of length is a bit of a misconception when it comes to a game like this. The areas are so full of aural and visual treats that you can easily see and hear new things each time though. I've already got it for Xbox but am very keen to see it in 3D, so plan to revisit it on PS3 when I get all the necessary gear together.

Missed those Lara Croft avatars. Oh well, i'll pick them up when that new Dragon Age 2 DLC hits.
  • Miths #28 8 months ago

I think I'll take my chances with Child of Eden then. With the possible exception of Rochard there's not really anything else in this week's update I expect to buy.
  • rogueJT #29 8 months ago

anyone know if the Arkedo Series come with trophies?

BTW all 3 games in the Arkedo Series are €1.99, not just Pixel!

They're getting great reviews anywhere I look.

    edit: Yes there are: http://www.ps3trophies.org/forum/arkedo-...

Think I might get me some Borderlands at that price
  • Atropos #31 8 months ago

Hmm, might actually finally pick up Borderlands then...
  • hilts #32 8 months ago

Is Eurogamer (or any other site for that matter) going to review PS3 Child of Eden ?! There is a general presumption that it will be better / more suited to move (i hope so!) but i find the lack of a review 2 days before release a bit ominous?
  • Beano #33 8 months ago

The new Mercury game is pretty sweet. Great 1080p graphics, responsive sixaxis controls, nice music, great fun... and cheap :)
  • Captain_Jono #34 8 months ago

Ah dang it! Borderlands discount is only for Playstation Plus subscribers. Oh well!
  • SeesThroughAll #35 8 months ago

Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 12: The Masters (£57.99/€69.99)

EA is competing with Ubisoft, I see.
  • mode7 #36 8 months ago

I might pick up Fifa 12 as most of my mates will want it too.

As you can have your account (legitimately) authorised on five PS3 machines at any one time.

    FIFA 12 (£54.99/€69.99) - Available Friday 30th September

    is suddenly...

    FIFA 12 (£10.99/€12.60) - Available Friday 30th September - per person

As long as I can share my games with my mates like this, I'm happy to pay £54.99 for a game.
  • handsonhips101 #37 8 months ago

    @mode7;

Then when your ps3 ylods (which is a strong possibility, well almost certain if its a fatty) you won't have any activations left and your friends won't want to deactivate as they have paid their share of the game. You won't have FIFA, they will.
  • mode7 #38 8 months ago

    @handsonhips101

Very true, I admit it is a bit risk. And I also admit that I have had one PS3 (fat) on me die already. I share my account with three very close friends. If one of our PS3s die, then it's a shared cost between us. But it still makes the price of buying an online title justifiable.

Even if you were to go "halfs" with a mate, it still makes it cheaper than buying a hard copy at launch.

I have found nowhere to suggest that this method is illegal. As it states when the software is bought that it is licensed to be played on up to 5 activated PS3 consoles. Does anyone else know otherwise...?
  • Miths #39 8 months ago

Child of Eden looks pretty fantastic on a 3D TV (and I'm sure it's also very visually impressive played in 2D, though I haven't tried as I obviously went straight for the options menu to enable 3D).
It's still too early to say whether I should have gone with my first instinct not to buy it given the steep price for what looked to me like a fairly typical PSN/XBLA shoot-'em-up, but since I suck so much at games in this genre :p I guess it's probably bound to take me quite a few hours to make my way through all the levels. Just the first one took me four attempts (13 minutes on the last one).

I've been playing with a DS3 but tomorrow I'll try hooking up my PS Move. I never got around to mounting the PS Eye when I bought my new TV a couple of months ago.

Can't find Borderlands GOTY on the store at all, not the ps+ or the main store. Was it an error? :(

EDIT: Checked the blog and it seems it IS an error, borderlands deal should appear on the 5th Oct update. Next week it is then

For a site called "Euro"gamer I think you're doing your readers quite a disservice. The European release of Castlevania Harmony of Despair is MIA, care to explain? Ask Konami about it?

I understand that you may be inclined to back your reviewer's stance (around the lowest on metacritic) on the game, but Konami sapping Europe of an historically significant franchise like Castlevania should be something that feeds the news.
