$1.6m Battlefield 3 contest announced
PC gamers not invited.
An online Battlefield 3 competition with a $1.6 million prize pot kicks off early next year, developer DICE has announced.
Organised in partnership with Virgin Gaming, the Battlefield 3 Worldwide Conquest Tournament will see PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 users shoot each other up for a slice of the dough. Sorry PC gamers, you're not invited.
Details of exactly how it will all go down are yet to be firmed up, but the matches will take place online with a live grand finale planned for some time in 2012.
Reckon you're in with a shot? Pre-registration has just begun.
'The Battlefield series has always been a very social experience with its best-in-class multiplayer gameplay and we're honored to have such passionate and loyal fans," commented DICE general manager Karl Magnus Troedsson.
"We want to give them the best Battlefield experience we've ever created with Battlefield 3. The Worldwide Conquest Tournament with Virgin Gaming is a great way to celebrate the gameplay and reward our fans."

MS killed a project due to the above too:

Problems quickly arose in testing, however, when Microsoft found that even the best console gamers simply couldn't compete with the accuracy a mouse and keyboard afforded a PC player. "The console players got destroyed every time", Sood says. "So much so that it would be embarrassing to the XBOX team in general had Microsoft launched this initiative."

And there will of course be pc only tournaments later.

Oh, and you're wrong ubergine - it takes a lot of skill to play well with a controller, but the relative ease of the keyboard/mouse combination just means you're up against a higher average skill level. A professional player using a keyboard/mouse would beat one using a controller, based purely on accuracy/reflexes alone (and not weapons, map knowledge etc).

Up yours too E.A. & Dice
...still playing it on p.c. cause i'm far too old to care about prize winning contests. Don't even have the time these days. Good luck to those that are entering though.

Nah, its just marketing for consoles since they know that COD will destroy them in the console territory.

Ho ho.
Not really a fan-boy-I have ps3/360 and pc and they all have plusses and minusses.
That said, this is a great time in the gaming cycle to get a pc--500 quid will buy a pc that sees significant enhancements for all current gen games, and the games themselves are usually cheaper too. I generally buy a console when they are new and sold at a loss, and a pc when the consoles are ageing. For me the biggest pc advantage is simply 1080p and 60 fps without tearing. I'm fussy like that.

I was interested in it when it first launched but after seeing $5 entry fee's to tournaments for a grand prize of $20 I just couldn't see the point. Most of these tournaments have over 100 players entered which means out of $500 they are awarded $20 to the winner, its a fucking JOKE!
Ill enter the BF3 one tho bcuz I could do with a million lol

That is irrelevant to why PC users aren't invited. Xbox users WON'T be playing against PS3 users, two separate tournaments, so if PC was invited, that would be a third tournament.
Battlefield 3 isn't a game that can be played cross platform

Simple as that.
