Beefy Deus Ex: Human Revolution PC patch

Mechs game better.

A new Deus Ex: Human Revolution patch is now live on Steam.

The update combats a host of performance-related issues found in the game as well. It also bestows some minor feature additions.

Despite the long list of corrections, another update is planned. A future patch will add Nvidia 3DVision and Nvidia Surround support.

The full list of fixes in today's update follows.

Fixes:

  • We have addressed various issues that can occur for players that would result in 'stuttering'.
  • Stutters that are the result of graphics driver shader processing are now removed or significantly reduced.
  • Stutters that are the result of data streaming have been removed or significantly reduced.
  • Performance has been improved and made more stable on dual-core systems. This could previously also result in stuttering.
  • Fixed issue where some players couldn't complete the Motherly Ties side quest.
  • Fixed an issue where doors in Omega Ranch sometimes wouldn't open.
  • The TYM medical card should no longer fall through the table if an NPC's body comes into contact with the card. Players already stuck in this area will need to revert to a previous save before the card fell through.
  • Occasional hangs for some players during video-playback have been fixed.
  • A crash on startup when running DX11 on a single-core CPU has been fixed.
  • An issue causing Eyefinity setups to not be correctly detected for some players has been fixed.
  • Fixed an issue where the HUD would get permanently disabled for some players.
  • Fixed certain issues that caused the mouse cursor to be able to leave the game-screen on multi-monitor setups.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the mouse cursor to not be visible in-game when the user has mouse trails enabled in Windows. We still recommend disabling mouse trails for a smoother in-game mouse cursor.
  • Fixed issue where ammo count for collected guns is incorrect when Adams weapon is augmented.
  • Fixed error message for some users when trying to use FXAA Medium or FXAA Low anti aliasing modes (DX9 mode)
  • Fixed shadow-mapping 'lines' on some graphics hardware when using anisotropic filtering (DX9 mode)

Features added:

  • The Enter and Numpad-Enter keys can now be bound to game actions in the keyboard control menu.
  • Intro logos can now be skipped on all but the first run of the game.
  • Added windowed mode - selectable in the menu, and can be toggled between windowed, fullscreen, and fullscreen windowed using ALT-ENTER.
  • Added an option to change the text language of the game. This setting only changes the text language, the audio is controlled by the language option in Steam.

Nice got the update this morning on steam

Hardly experienced a single bug on the PS3 version; the only thing I ever had was dead/stunned bodies getting caught on doorsteps and behaving strangely. Otherwise, perfect experience in every way - thank you Eidos Montreal/Squeenix!

good to see although haven't had any issues at all myself and load times only around 10secs too :) nice to see a game released that isn't full of bugs

Already gone through the game multiple times. Not exactly the most timely event is it?

That said, it'll be a good thing for people that have not yet played it; game is magnificent.
  • Softie2k #5 8 months ago

Wonderful game; much like the first one.

No mention of the added 'feature' which means you now get advertisements on the load screens? Ok, so it isn't in the middle of your gameplay, but when I paid full price for this game there was no indication I would be getting ads.

Good stuff, accidentally started playing Fallout New Vegas and have stuck over 50 hours in there so this has been sitting in my to play pile.

I managed to get the PS3 version to lock-up about 20 minutes into my first playthrough. After the first meeting with Sarif I didn't have the controls returned to me, so I couldn't move, forcing a restart. I then locked it up about half an hour further into the game, so the console (or PS3 version at least) is not perfect; however, it's been fine since then and I've happily spent a huge amount of hours creeping around punching unsuspecting people in the face.

    Good point, well spotted.

I read about this earlier on RPS and this is great news. I have a nice PC setup including a SSHD and the game is silky smooth except for the occassional stuttering. I'm glad they've resolved it as it is quite jarring. I assumed it was due to some form of background loading as whilst running around Detroit it seems to happen in the same places. However I was surprised it happened at all considering the SSHD transfer speeds and the amount of RAM I have.

Nevermind. It's an awesome game and I can't wait to get back to it tonight.

Thanks for the heads up Cheesecake, that kind of shit would snap me right out of the experience. Pity because the performance on dual cores is utterly shameful.

A crash on startup when running DX11 on a single-core CPU has been fixed.

Honestly, who would have a computer like that?
  • Darren #14 8 months ago

Well this patch seems to have fixed both the stuttering issues and the freezes I had when viewing the tutorial videos as I played the game from midnight, when the patch was released, until 2am. The game now runs silky-smooth with only a momentary hitch post-load and when quicksaving but that isn't unexpected. Shame the fix took so long to arrive but at least I can get back to playing the game again. :D

i had a bug on the 360 version with two "bums" in an alley near a fire, i walked past to speak to some guy, then on the return, both of them had morphed, they were reduced to 2 torsos on the floor, with heads inside the torso-visible through holes where the arms were meant to be attached, but the torsos had shrunk just enough to fit the heads inside, they were like 2 talking piles of laundry. i recorded it on my phone, i suppose ill put it on you tube when i have nothing better to do, along with my 2xmultiplying rooftop guard on assasins creed 2, (they kept popping out of one like multiple man, the whole roof was packed and they started pouring off the sides like lemmings)

I wonder if some of these issues plague the consoles. I completed the motherly ties quest normally, but when my brother goes to complete the quest the game freezes during the conversation with megans mother.

Weird thing is, we both play with the same disc on the same PS3, why does he have the problem and I don't?!
  • Nithron #17 8 months ago

The only bug I got hasn't been listed. Several other people had the same problem, as well - the sidequest given to you by the undercover police officer near the beginning of the game becomes uncompletable because a gang member that needs to be killed, spawns in a random impenetrable apartment.

You hear him, and his gun clips through the wall sometimes, but it's impossible to kill him and complete the quest.

That said, i've already played it through twice in quick succession and I'm not likely to go back and play that bit again anyway, so it really doesn't matter to me.
  • Loneck #18 8 months ago

Im still waiting for Xbox 360 patch. There are quite serious bugs in the game.
  • bobfish09 #19 8 months ago

I didn't experience any bugs on the PC version, mouse was laggy in the hacking things, but that was a minor issue.
  • evnewell #20 8 months ago

Huh - so they didn't fix the boss fights then... still a great game.
  • sixish #21 8 months ago

"If there's anybody hiding there, they'd better come out!" "Huh, must be my imagination" HOW DOES THIS GET SUCH GREAT REVIEWS?! I was hoping they would fix the bloody AI, but I guess it's still stuck on easy mode for everyone.
  • pauleyc #22 8 months ago

Increasing performance and fixing bugs is nice but the real question is: will the next patch allow Adam to untie the hostages?
  • MattyD #23 8 months ago

Thank christ for that. I get an average 70-80fps on this except in certain areas where the framerate slows to a crawl for no obvious reason, mostly around the hub areas.
  • Jon1292 #24 8 months ago

I hope they didn't fix the fact that sometimes bosses would get stuck behind terrain, making them easymode. That was a godsend.
  • Mentat_Idaho #25 8 months ago

Glad to hear this. Those stutters were so irritating I've hardly played. That's my weekend sorted.

(actually i did and i'm very happy)
  • Rusty_M #29 8 months ago

Finished it the day before this patch came out. Maybe I'll try a no kills/ no stutter run
  • dalealstick #30 8 months ago

Best game of this year for now :)
  • Lord_BeeJee #31 8 months ago

Maybe this is playable for me now.

Just got the game. How do I know if I have the latest version? The build in the right bottom corner is 1.2.630.0
  • WinterMute78 #34 8 months ago

Not had any probes on the 360 other than bodies getting stuck on tables and things sometimes
  • JeffGerstmann #35 8 months ago

I want half my money back. The only problem I had with this game was stutters, as in a stuttering framerate every time I got to a big open place.
  • mr_pink #36 8 months ago

Would have been nice to have this a few weeks ago, already finished it now. I had terrible trouble with crashes until I trawled the forums and applied workarounds. Guess I'll wait a couple of months for patching before I buy my new PC release.

Deus Ex HR is a very good game, pretty fun but not as good as Mass Effect unfortunately. It feels a little bit dated gameplay-wise and perhaps not as expansive and gripping as it should be. There's nothing much we haven't seen before e.g. Splinter Cell, Mass Effect. The social commentary is nice but it is somewhat superficial and maybe not as clever as it's trying to be. I give it a few bonus points for letting me take down a bad guy with his friend's fist though.
  • Bleemo #37 8 months ago

hah slightly ironic I was wondering what was up with the stuttering since my rig is half decent. They would patch the thing several hours after I completed the thing. Great game though better than I would have hoped. Sadly gonna have to wait years for another one.
  • cptSoapMw3 #38 8 months ago

Great patch, though, I never asked for this ...
