November firmware release detailed.

Nintendo will bolster the 3DS' capabilities in November by adding 3D video recording.

Currently the system can only take static pictures in 3D.

The feature will be added in a forthcoming firmware upgrade which will also include refinements to the Mii Plaza and eShop.

Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata announced the update at the company's pre-TGS gathering last night.

Iwata hinted that Plaza upgrades would include new SpotPass activities for those who'd already completed the existing Puzzle Swap and StreetPass Quest minigames.

I like the spotpass thingie a lot. Makes me always bring my 3DS along, even when I'm not planning on playing. And the 3D video capture really makes me happy. That was a feature I misses, although the low res cam is a bummer

I'm not hating on Nintendo, but they're making it difficult to resist...This is a great 'new' feature, but why exactly didn't it do this straight out of the box? Is it possible that they foresaw the level of discontent in early adopters and held back features to be released as 'treats' at a later date?..Cynical? Moi?

More street pass guff is obviously a good thing though.

@Gamesprogrammer - The 3D pictures are easy to take off the 3ds as you can save them to the SD card. Should be the same for video but I have no idea what format they would use.

I really hope they will allow frame by frame recording and audio dubbing (although I'm doubtful).

It would be nice to have the ability to make some 3D stop-motion animations with the camera.

would stop motion even work in 3D? Wouldn't it be to abrubt in changing perspectives and tire you eyes quickly?

To answer the why so much hate questions : the 3D camera is the most interesting thing about the 3DS. Which is a shame.

Stop Motion works fine. Someone did a basic 3D animation using the 3DS camera just after launch (they did a little stop motion movie with a toy car)..only problem is you had to view it cross eyed on a monitor as the 3DS wouldn't play it.

Who said that? 3D photos are in the standard .mpo format, and are therefore viewable on a PC, so why not?
