PS Move game a Sony Santa Monica title

Plastic "planting the seeds now".

Polish demoscene group Plastic is working on a PlayStation Move enabled Sony Santa Monica production.

Sony Santa Monica Studio is home to the God of War team.

A video, below, teasing a mysterious game popped up online earlier today, sparking speculation that a new, unannounced Move title was in the works.

The video shows a floating hand touching materials in a forest. At the 1 minute 7 second mark a PlayStation Move controller appears at the bottom right corner of the screen.

NeoGAF member Toppot's detective work pointed the finger at Plastic, creator of 2008 PlayStation Network game Linger in Shadows.

Plastic issued the following statement to Eurogamer this afternoon:

"We all at Plastic admire the speed and style of NeoGAF member Toppot, who managed to combine the hints and classify us as a developer of next Santa Monica Studio production.

"We also encourage you to find the game title. We are planting the seeds now…"

The plot thickens.

    Looks very interesting!

A simple title like 'Touch' would work.
  • CloisterBlack #2 9 months ago

Kinda "creepy" that it's a floating hand, would be better if it was attached to the rest of a body..
    Interesting video nonetheless.
  • Umang #3 9 months ago

A point & click adventure game with that technology would be AWESOME!
  • Widge #4 9 months ago

Linger In Shadows was... a bit bobbins really.
  • Widge #5 9 months ago

    Feel and Touch adventure game!
  • BuckEntropy #6 9 months ago

Looks something that would be a better fit for Kinect.

And roll out the negs, but c'mon, it's really a no brainer. ;)

I have 2 comments for this, one is serious, one is not.

Serious comment: very interesting, the atmosphere is absolutely moving and the music is perfect.

Non-serious comment: The title might be "Addams Family: Thing"
Sorry for this but it just entered mind like this!

It must be said, 99% of players' first reactions will be to flip the bird.

The Santa Monica team is clearly a very talented one, but I think their creativity was limited by the strict structure and specific demands of God of War games. I'm intrigued to see what they can do when they get to excercise their creativity and talent more freely.

    Looks amazing.

    Looks creepy... but looks amazing.

Seriously though, the "boning" (I'm not an animator, I'm sure there is a better word) of the hand is spot on. Very lifelike.

    @BuckEntropy

Nah. I think it is far more suited to Move.

That precision and detail means that you could do some really cool stuff with a hand. Just look at some of the early Move tech demos :)

This, combined with Sony HMZ head mounted display....
A lot of original and inspired exclusive titles for ps3 by the way, thank you Sony ;)
  • customfirmware #14 9 months ago

looks interesting. kinda reminds me of the chameleon tech demo that was shown
  • BuckEntropy #15 9 months ago

@chris_ace - You are clearly able to read a lot more out of this teaser than I.
Not that I could bring any argument:

    Fondling virtual tree trunks
    /
Fondling virtual tree trunks with a dildo in your hand

I guess it's entirely subjective which is "better".

    @Widge

Feel & Touch Adventure game you say? Surely we've been playing this game already ;) ... well maybe not all of us has haha
  • riz23 #17 9 months ago

I need to get out more or something. I looked at that creepy hand and thought "wow, these guys could make a fapping game"
  • Bigglesworth #18 9 months ago

Looks and sounds beautiful. Kind of glad its not from a Japanese developer too, or it wouldn't be the statue lady's hand we'd be groping.

  • Triggerhappytel #25 9 months ago

How about making it an adventure-come-point&click, kind of like The Seventh Guest meets Oblivion?

    /Sigh. I can but dream...
  • funkateer #26 9 months ago

I saw a scene with a statue of a bare-breasted woman holding a ball. A body-less hand controlled by the player fondling the ball.
I wonder what Freud would make of that :)

    "Troll."

Come on, man.the.king, a trailer featuring a hand fondling a crack in a tree..? Fondling a ball held by a topless female statue...? and all controlled using a fallus shaped controller...? while the developers are "planting the seeds"..? and, oh yeah, the plot 'thickens'!
Face it, *Somebody* had to bring up the 'dildo' remark! :)

I can totally see how the move makes more sense than kinect in an absurd way. But then again, my perverted mind might be reading into things that aren't there ;)

Move game threads have a lot less trolls and haters than Kinect... Diferent comunities I guess, haters and all that.

I'm playing through Resistance 3 right now with Move, and its amazing. Really well done, like Killzone 3's controls were. Maybe try that?
  • casodi #32 9 months ago

@hypertails i might try resistance 3 then. I still believe theres a lack of move focused games. Most games just have move support built in and are not based around it.
  • curryking3 #33 9 months ago

Is this a hint for a VR glove in the future too? That would be pretty cool... maybe that's Move 2 :p

Looks interesting though. A Myst type game would be a good fit for this I think. I'd really like a comeback of the 'not-at-all-about-action-game' games. All the horsepower in the machine can be devoted to ambience like leaves blowing in the wind instead of a run-of-the-mill A.I. system.

I'm guessing the rumble is going to be fine-tuned for some very subtle per-texture/ per-climate effects? If so this could be the first game that lets the player actually reach inside and 'touch' the digital world they're seeing, and feel a big part of it. Combine that with 3D and Dolby 5.1, and I imagine it could be a very cool, slightly unsettling, and novel experience.
  • koopa #37 9 months ago

It looks and sounds great and artsy, but I don't know why are you guys so excited since all we see is a hand touching stuff, reminds me of those VR games from the '90s. The presentation sure is very promising though...
  • mr2ange #38 9 months ago

    @BuckEntropy

Looks like something that would be bloody awful on kinect. Accurate and precise movements in 3d space are what move does best.
This would be a horrible shimmer fest with kinect - plus you would have to be aboub 20cm away from the camera for it to see your hand accurately enough.

    that aside:
Don't know if this is a game or what, but i love the style and feel of the video, plastic have done some fantastic productions to date, i wish more demoscene guys would jump on board the game dev wagon!
  • mr2ange #39 9 months ago

    Also just wanted to add,

Love the music in the video,

Although this video may only be showing a single element of what the game/production is - It could be something that genuinely opens up a whole raft of new ideas / gameplay mechanics.

I know that some people see the virtual world interaction thing as a no go - based on the view that VR in the 90's died a horrible death, But the possibilities are amazing if the tech for all these different areas can be unified within a single platform.
Imagine this tech used with the head mounted display in 3d... I bet the elderscrolls guys would love to give that a go...

My only fear is running away from an enemy in game slap bang into the door frame - knocking myself out cold!

Edit - wow 2 negs already... well ok, i would have preferred to have heard a counter argument... some people just don't want to show their opinion incase it gets put down by another... well stay in silence then. we all know how far that gets you.

Linger In Shadows was very peculiar, but I thought it was interesting and I look forward to more from the same people.
  • Obli #42 9 months ago

Nice tech demo and quite amtmospheric, I am a little intrigued. But where's the game? Feeling objects with my hand? I can do that in real life.
