Red Orchestra 2 beta goes live

For Deluxe Edition purchasers.

The beta for PC tactical FPS sequel Red Orchestra 2 has launched - but it's only accessible to those who pre-purchased the Deluxe Edition.

The first phase of the beta includes three levels from the game running the three gametypes: Firefight, Countdown, and Territory.

Tripwire Interactive is using the beta as its final balancing test for the game, and wants your feedback. You can download the beta from Steam.

Meanwhile, Tripwire has announced it will allow server administrators to host ranked servers for the game.

"We feel the 'walled garden' approach many developers take to server hosting makes it difficult for the clan/gaming communities as well as stifling mod and custom mapping development - two things that are very important to the success and longevity of any multiplayer game," the company said.

"We have also put together a list of Recommended Server Hosting Partners that we've been working closely with to ensure they provide a good experience for our fans and game server admins as well as meeting the hardware requirements of the game.

In the UK these are Gamingdeluxe, KillerCreation and Multiplay.

Hmm, could have sworn i purchased the deluxe version but I see no sign of the beta. Is there any purchase history in Steam to actually check what version you've bought?

Played the closed beta a bit. It's really hardcore this game. And still with a few too many bugs here and there.

"You can download the beta from Steam."
Only from steam? Cause I saw an Origin ad within the trailer.

    @dutzan

That is computer maker Origin, not EA's Origin.

@BillMurray - I had to log out and back in to Steam for the beta to appear.

Feels excellent so far. Much more slick, without losing any of the hardcore edge.

It depends what you expect from fps wargames Cairbre. It is the complete opposite of COD. It is a realistic ww2 shooter. I think i've said enough with that. Oh and it's excellent by the looks of all the previews.

Things are really looking up again for pc, yippie

@Ahskay thanks I think I will wait for the full release as sometimes I find betas can give you a bad impression of a game and then you go into the full release with the wrong attitude.

Bought the game from steam, downloaded the beta, played one round, and now I'm pursuing a refund from Steam.
I want to be supportive of a developer who is still making PC-only titles, but this game really isn't worth the money.

The graphics are really clunky, so much so that it completely takes any sense of realism out of the game. Add in a broken cover system, and you are back to playing Counterstrike.
