Sega confirms Rhythm Thief for 3DS

Quirky music adventure heading West.

Sega has confirmed an early 2012 European release for Rhythm Thief & The Emperor's Treasure.

First sighted in Japan last week as Rhythm Phantom Thief R: Inheritance of the Emperor Napoleon, it's a "mysterious rhythmic adventure" set in Paris.

You'll play as art thief Raphael - infamous for pinching famous paintings, only to return them days later - as he attempts to track down his missing father.

The trailer below is light on gameplay details but apparently you'll tap and swipe away at the 3DS's touch screen to the beat of the music to guide Raphael through the city's streets.

There'll be puzzles to solve along the way, multiplayer modes and SpotPass support.

"Rhythm Thief & the Emperor's Treasure blends rhythm, puzzles and a compelling story set in one of the world's most exciting cities in a way that has never been seen before," commented Sega marketing chief Gary Knight.

"This unique blend makes creative use of the Nintendo 3DS' technology, offering an engaging, challenging and most importantly fun experience throughout."

Looks like a lively blend of Elite Beat Agents and Professor Layton to our eyes. Thoughts?
