Max Payne 3 reveal imminent

Rockstar releases new screens.

Looks like Rockstar is finally preparing to take the wraps off Max Payne 3.

The developer posted two new screenshots on its official site today, which you can check out below, along with a message stating "expect a lot of news in the next few months."

Aside from a few detail-light magazine previews earlier this year, very little has been heard about the follow-up to 2003's Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne.

Originally scheduled for release way back in 2009, the delayed title is still without a current date, though a number of big retailers recently pegged it for a December launch.

Loved the first one, hated the second one, am willing to be convinced by a third. But it's not a given this time around I'm afraid.

No fatty Max Payne? Maybe they've changed it or they're going to show a progression to fatty Payne.

Looks like they've backpedaled a bit since the proposed muscle-head interpretation. That first shot looks like the skinny/skinny-tie Max I remember. Good thing.

    2003?? Wow, it's been a while.

i hope they base it on the film. that was Oscar quality in Fringe's alternate universe. Over there Mark Wahlberg is bigger then Elvis.

He'll still be the bald muscle-head interpretation. This is just one of the flashbacks in the game.

They should have stuck with that guys head super imposed from the first one, was funny.

Big fan of both previous games, definitely anticipating the reveal :)

Do want. The first two are some of the most addictive games I've played.

This is reminiscent of Read Dead/L.A Noire with the 2 year delays. I wonder what the management is like over there.

So EG really doesn't read EDGE does it? They did run a cover big feature for this game and had it on the cover of the magazine earlier this year. They also pretty much revealed it's coming out late this year.

The second game improved on the first in every conceivable way. True PC classics the both of them. The second still plays really well too.

Are you people up there insane? The first one was ok but the second game was an absolute bloody masterpiece.

Not holding out much hope since Remedy aren't involved with this one but maybe it will surprise me.

Lol @ the people saying the second one sucked. You actually mean it improved on every facet of the gameplay of the original, with a more meaningful story, more poetic script and more character development than RAAAAAAAAAAAAGE? The first game was absolutely brilliant, if a little mad. Remedy matured as a developer by the second.

I'm not even mentioning the challenge modes, the inside jokes, the awesome way you could reload in bullet time and make bullet time progressively slower by making more kills.

Oh yeah and BULLET TIME + RAGDOLLS (Yep MP2 was one of the first games to use ragdoll physics, watching bodies buckle as they got clipped in slow motion will never get old!)

Yeah MP2 was the first shooter I remember using havok physics in gameplay and it polished every gameplay aspect of MP1. It also introduced quick throw grenades that you didnt have to select first (like halo).

The only reason MP2 didn't do well was, I think, the studio just put the product out of the door without marketing it assuming a great sequel to a smash hit would sell itself. Sadly that wasn't the case.

Looking forward to MP3 and fatty Payne! And I loved that hard boiled camp film noir plot!

How do you "reveal" a game that's been the subject of a multi-page Gameinformer cover story? Did they just...scrap all the stuff they talked about and showed to GI and start over?
  • WukWhiteWolf #19 9 months ago

It's Rockstar, unless it's that table tennis game and Max Payne is up against those Chineese pros, I'm excited about it.
  • javvyman #20 9 months ago

Firstly, the second was by far the best, and GOTY at the time.
As for his look, I remember reading somewhere that the character is going to take us through various timelines in his life post Max Payne 2. Explaining his different looks.
