    Looks lovely! If it lives up to the promise it's reveal at E3 showed, this will be outstanding!

    i'm in minority here, probably, but i prefered first far cry over half life 2 ( which i love anyway, of course : ] )- i played it upon release, and it was amazing game, no previous FPS could compare to it - some say that HL2 made generational leap for FPS, i think it was far cry ( it was released a little earlier)

    that said, i can't be happier to see that they seem to go back to FC1 roots with this game : D

    the wide concept art pic is doodle over a photo... look at the bush in the middle closely in full res and the water around it.... actually is a photo lol
  • Triggerhappytel #4 9 months ago

    Are these concept art shots and/or bullshots? Either way, looks nice and I love the setting, although doubt the consoles will look anywhere near as nice as this.

    @kassmageant

    I agree, Far Cry, with all it's little problems, was the design I hoped all future shooters would aspire to, while HL2 was the old linear/scripted design in an almost perfect form, but it kinda felt like a step back to me in many ways...

    Nice to be around people with some sense and taste. I couldnt agree more particulary with Koopa.
    The sad thing is that in parts the first Far Cry really tried and pushed the shooter fowards unfortunately we seemed to have been going backwards ever since. I recently played through Crysis 2 and it amazed me in the same way as any big budget shooter does these days. However the mechanics of Crytechs first game all those years ago was far more interesting.

    One thing that really sticks out in my mind was the first Far Cry PC demo. I must have played it through 40 times if not more but because it was a sandbox rather than linear and because the AI seemed so good you got different results each time.

    The game did go down a bit as soon as all the Trigens appeared and became too linear as it went on, but the parts that worked were so good you could forgive the developer a lot.

    Pity all the follow up were so poor in comparison or just linear shooters in disguise. 3 will hopefully go back the the games roots.

    When you say "screen shots"....

    Why do the most recent ones look like concept art?
  • wogsy81 #8 9 months ago

    I love being a Far Cry 2 fan.
    It makes me feel so much more intelligent then other people.
    Because anyone who didn't appreciate the brilliance of FC2 is obviously an idiot!

    FC2 was probaly the best single player game i have played this gen. What a bloody ending!! A really powerful endgame.
    Yes FC2 has its problems but the immersion and beauty of the world far outweighed the negatives. The best tip for first time FC2 players is just "take it slow".. It really is bloody fantatsic game.

    I cannot wait for this. (just please remove all that "50 xp" bullshit from the single player please.

    @wogsy81
    It wasn't, it had a large world with virtually nothing to do, it was just like a pretty backdrop to look at whilst you got from point A to point B. Plus the game had some serious bugs and AI problems. Hopefully that'll be fix'd for the 3rd and maybe it could contend for best game of this gen (Although it has some solid competition).
  • kassmageant #10 9 months ago

    @Ikaros_0

    i'm with you on this one. i so wanted to love FC2, it looked beautiful, but despite that, the game itself felt so... artificial? slow? ( @ lefizz - who the hell buy fps to take it slow : )) ) somehow this game felt to me more like a chore than joy to play, and it's still hard for me to explain why exactly. weird game.

    FC2 is easily one of the worst games I've played this gen. It was the one I was most looking forward to playing, but it was ultimately broken. Those re-spawning enemies which had Terminator precision when it came to shooting you through thick foliage from 200 yards away was laughably bad. Couple this with them being able to take a shotgun blast to the head from point-blank range and all that happens is that they fall over and then get back up and continue firing at you and you you have the recipe for the worst FPS I've EVER played.

    Such a disappointment.

    I'll definitely wait a while before I consider getting FC3.

    @stonecrowe
    You're getting this the wrong way around: it's not a doodle on top of one photo, it's photos worked into the composition of the doodle to get a higher detailled look. That's perfectly normal for concept art, where you just try to get a lot done in little time.
    This has nothing to do with cheating or a lack of skills, it's just about getting a feel for the setting, working fast and getting your ideas across to the rest of the team.

    FC2 was brilliant. How you can say it was one of the worst titles around boggles the mind.

    Yes, it had problems. No, they didn't get in the way for me.
  • AllenSpawn #14 9 months ago

    Ok, I give up.
    Where's the dead ( or about to be dead body in the first shot) ?

    Far cry 2 was an amazing game.
  • Retro_ #15 9 months ago

    One one question, does FC3 have a map editor? It's the map making community that made FC2 for me as I didn't get on so well with the SP.
  • Haloboy #16 9 months ago

    FC2 is easily one of the worst games I've played this gen.

    Oh you harsh motherfucker. FC2 is in no shape or form one of the worst games this gen, it's a far cry from it in fact. Yeah I went there. Anyone who loved the game as much as I did knows it had it's fair share of issues and many of them seemed like they could have had a fairly simple fix. But outside that slight box of fail there was a game that immersed me like no other fps has to date. I spent many glorious months in that there jungle planning my assaults and making my way around it on foot, in a boat, in a jeep and even from the air.

    In short the game delivered for me beyond my expectations and included problems never truly hampered the overall experience because the overall experience eclipsed any faults I felt the game had. I'm still stunned anyone here or anywhere else can have the audacity to say FC2 is amongst one of the worst game this gen, it is without doubt for me actually a true spearhead as to what this gen managed to deliver when so many other titles didn't.

    What haloboy said.

    For those of you who dont like FC2.. I pity you!!
