Treyarch making Modern Warfare 3 Wii

Black Ops dev announces new project.

Call of Duty: Black Ops creator Treyarch is developing the recently revealed Wii version of Modern Warfare 3.

"The Wii has grown so much as a platform," Infinity Ward's creative strategist Robert Bowling told One of Swords. "The great thing is Treyarch proved that you can have an awesome experience on the Wii with Call of Duty. They'll actually be handling that for Modern Warfare 3."

The veteran Call of Duty studio has plenty of experience working on the Nintendo console. It picked up Wii development duties for Infinity Ward's first Modern Warfare and created Wii versions of its own World at War and Black Ops.

The existence of a Modern Warfare 3 for Wii first came to light earlier this week. Company exec Eric Hirshberg told investors Activision had decided a version for Nintendo fans was necessary "so as not to leave any of the community out of the excitement".

Activision plans to launch Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 for Wii alongside its PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 brothers on 8th November.

Treyarch are shit. Didn't they make the Tony Hawk games?
  • el_pollo_diablo #2 10 months ago

    That was Neversoft.

That's right Treyarch, do as you're bloody told.

Making a CoD for the Wii is bound to be humbling experience, which they deserve.

Treyarch are clearly not shit, just because they use the engine the other company made, does not make them shit, getting a game like cod to run on a Wii without too much compromise is hard work. Fair enough Blops had its fair share of bugs online but it wasnt unplayable and if number of bugs is how you determine a shit company, then Bethesda is the shittest of all time. (and there clearly not)

I remember when Treyarch used to make those crappy Spiderman games, they should've stuck with that tbh

Modern Warfare 3 Zombies a possibility?
I'd buy it if that was included

Treyarch are strange, they're good and bad at making CoD's for Wii. They make some vital mistakes such has doing something super wrong that somehow makes hosts have HORRIBLE framerate, but I still commend them for being able to get the game running on a pathetically weak console like the Wii.

They also for some reason Black Ops made it so you need 5 players for a match to start in every game mode (except FFA) and a lot of the time I have 4 people in a lobby and we're just sitting there waiting for a 5th player to join and it takes ages cus there's not many players in Australia. Then when I email Treyarch and post on the forums and tell them to change it to 4 like it was in the other games, it doesn't get changed.

I wish they could I dunno, grab some people from Nintendo to help with development because there's no one better at optimizing games for the Wii than Nintendo.

I'd like to know the number of Wii owners who are likely to buy MW3 and DON'T own a PS3 and/or a 360, because I would find it very surprising if people buy the Wii version when they can play a PS3/360 version.

Is that number really significant enough to make a Wii port of MW3?

    Master System version.

Treyarch are brilliant at pushing older hardware like the wii. Black Ops was excellent considering the wii's limitations. Surely this is great news for wii owners who don't have access to a 360/PS3/PC and want to experience some decent fps gaming.

I bet after they finished Black Ops, they were like "awesome job guys, what shall we make next?", so they took a poll of the office where everyone wrote down suggestions for their next project. Some guy went round the office and took all the ideas, tallied them up, and found he had the easiest job in the world because everybody wrote down "let's port Modern Warfare 3 to the Wii!".

Because that is the stuff dreams are made of.

@Makeem95 Black Ops for Wii has sold roughly 1 million units so far. CoD4 on Wii has sold roughly 1.34 million. CoD WaW on Wii has sold roughly 1.80 million. CoD3 on Wii has sold roughly 2.09 million. So yeah, its worth porting the games to the Wii, thats a decent amount of money made.

In my opinion, people that own all 3 consoles (or a Wii + 360 or a Wii + PS3) should at least give the Wii version a try. The only things that let the Wii version down are.
Framerate: Its 30 frames per second instead of 60, which is a major letdown considering it uses a pointer to aim. It also drops to 20 - 25 frames when there's a lot going on :(.

Graphics: Only a biggie for people that care about graphics, but if you play on the right TV (26" - 32" 1366 x 768 TV) then it can still look decent.

Internet: Because of the Wii's crap internet components, there's some extra lag and hit detection wont be as good. In CoD WaW and CoD4 you had to shoot in front of people when they were walking or running, but in Black Ops they made big improvements, its fairly close to the 360 / PS3. So hopefully they'll make more improvements in MW3

Otherwise, the improvement in gameplay because of the controls are really worth a try. I own the PC version of Black Ops and I still hop on the Wii version from time to time, the controls just make it fun.

EDIT: I have no idea how the bold code works on eurogamer!

The Wii sucks massive cocks. Why would anyone buy this? Surley there will be an age rating for this tripe, which should rule out all the wee bastards who play childrens games on the wii anway??!!

    Edited to speak the truth.

@carlitoswagon I'm no games programmer, but Treyarch have nailed the controls for Call of Duty on Wii, there's nothing more to add. Shouldn't it now just be a matter of copy pasting the code (so to speak) of the controls and put it into the new game?

Not literally, but what I mean is shouldn't it not take long at all to implement the controls into a new game since its already done?
  • britainshardest #16 10 months ago

Activision want to release MW3 on the Wii because they will make money from it. It's good for people who can only buy it on Wii 'cos they don't have another console or PC good enough. Treyarch will port it because they have make games for the Wii before and so are the best team to do it because they know the Wii better than Infinity Ward does. Infinity Ward will want to make the game as good as possible because they have a reputation for quality and don't want to compromise that by taking man power away to make the Wii version. It's not that Trayacrh want to make it but it makes the most sence.
