Day one patch for Resistance 3

Last minute changes planned post-beta.

Resistance 3 will see a day one patch to incorporate a number of last minute tweaks and updates, developer Insomniac Games has announced.

In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Insomniac community manager James Stevenson explained that the though the game has now left the studio to be manufactured, the 11th hour update is necessary to tackle any issues flagged up during the multiplayer beta, due to start on 10th August.

The FPS sequel is due on shelves from 9th September. Stevenson also shared a new trailer, which you can check out below.

    Isn't the whole point of Betas to flag problems whilst the devs still have time to fix them? Seems a bit dumb doing it after the game's gone gold =/
  • GreatBlackthorn #2 10 months ago

    Well if you'll be playing the online you'll be able to download the patch anyway. None issue.

    I wish I could muster the strength to play the PS3 more....but these damn updates! can someone please explain to me why a PS3 title update or patch is usually so big? I mean seriously, why 360 updates are a few MB and PS3 ones are upto 200mb, sometimes more.
    Not trolling, I just don't get it.

    The definition of a beta is an unfinished project - how the hell do you do one after the game has gone gold?
  • CzR #7 10 months ago

    @Javvyman

    Don't know for sure but I'd hazard a guess that the 360 has delta updates.
  • sfp_noodle #8 10 months ago

    @javvy

    If you played the PS3 more often you'd realise that updates aren't anywhere near as frequent as some people make them out to be. The size is an issue with PS3 updates of course, but unless you intend to play GT5 that's also a none issue. I suggest you have a little patience and fiddle with your router settings to increase download speeds.

    Yet another reason why i won't be buying this game till it hits £15.
    This has lost my pre-orders as 4 members of my household would of shared 2 copies but an extra £16-£20 to get others to play due to PSN pass , the 44 player drop in online mp and now the day 1 hours worth of install (probably) before i can get stuck in , so 4 individual copies will be my choice and i'll laugh all the way home as i know both Dev & Publisher have earnt naff all from my sales .
    If only the Fifa/EA morons would have done the same we would't be having to deal with this Pass crap.
  • uncharted86 #10 10 months ago

    @mrvinny000

    The Online Pass can be downloaded from your account on 5 different PS3's. Problem solved!
  • mrvinny000 #11 10 months ago

    So my account on 5 ps3's will allow my 7 other accounts to access R3'S mp? (4sons, daughter , mrs & me )
    Somehow i don't think that will be the case . EA never used that for VIP , F3AR didn't and niether did Any EA game .
    If i'm wrong i'll gladly say i'm a douche but still losing 44players from its mp and expanding the ever tedious co-op has still not got me onboard & my £15 limit still stands.

    So i'm getting negged because I don't play the PS3 frequently enough? Also, how would playing my PS3 more offset the amount of long updates I have to sit through?

    The problem is that i've had to sit through maybe 3 longish updates in the past year on the 360, and I play that everyday.
    yet whenever i've played a new game on the PS3 there's a large update, not to mention the amount of times i've had to update my FM this year just so I can go online and access the store, and that's without factoring in the April downtime.

    I'd love to play the PS3 more often, there are many games that are coming out this year that I definatly plan on buying like SC HD collection, SOTC & ICO, Uncharted 3. Iin fact, I just got Killzone 3, but surely i'm not alone in saying that these updates are incredibly frustrating and put some people off.

    I'm a grown up, I can make myself a drink while I wait. ATM I'm playing around 6 different games, most of which are online, I can't remember the last time I downloaded a patch for any of them. Can't wait for R3, glad they reduced the online player count, R2 was a cluster fuck.

    It's nice to have the ability to keep tweaking after release, but its become bloody standard practise with Sony. I feel sorry for the ppl without net.
  • riseer #15 10 months ago

    javvyma,Most updates are not very big sometimes you get large updates games like GT5 have large updates because of the shear size of the updates they add in.
  • Mr_Git #16 10 months ago

    @gjgjg: Don't feel sorry for the people without internet as they'll not be able to play the multiplayer, also not downloading the patch! Save your sympathies for people in the world who may need it and for people who don't read articles, such as yourself.

    Javvyman: what modern system doesn't download a shitload of updates if you don't use it for ages? Use more often and it wouldn't be a big dump. But would love to see an android / mac store type constant notice of updates and bulk download. It does suck to fire up a game and have to wait.

    Sony always leave the Beta quite late? They did it with SOCOM aswell.
    I Sooooooo want Resistance 3!!!
  • flaming.carrot #19 10 months ago

    Just to wade in on this this 'always updating' argument. The last PS3 firmware was released on 23 June, and took about 4 minutes to install on my machine. Games patching is down to the game's developer not SONY, and I for one and pretty glad they do patch.

    For better or for worse, Microsoft have tight restrictions on patch sizes, though there have still been some ~200MB patches for 360 games. Sony, again for better or for worse, do not have such restrictions.

    One of the upsides is that devs can be a little more creative in how they update and change games post-release - for example a dev could change their whole frontend: menu flow, textures, music, video sequences, say for xmas or some anniversary or whatever. Burnout Paradise and GT5 have both done this to limited degrees. The downside is that encourages more frequent and larger patch releases.

    Its worth noting though that patches for offline functionality on PS3 are *always* optional. You can simply decline the offer to patch and play without problems, and patch later whenever you want (or not at all!).
