Game restarts £5 Play Now/Trade Later

Call of Juarez, Dirt 3, Fear 3, Hunted, more.

UK shop Game has restarted its Play Now/Trade Later deal.

It means you can buy selected games and trade them in for a guaranteed amount, effectively meaning you pay a fiver for them.

Codemasters' superb racer Dirt 3 is on the list. Fear 3 on Xbox 360 (not PS3) is another.

Other games included are:

  • UFC Trainer (Wii)
  • Cars 2 (DS)
  • Art Academy (DS)
  • Call of Juarez: The Cartel (Xbox 360 and PS3)
  • Hunted: The Demon's Forge (PS3)
  • Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 (Wii)

If you trade in any of those games for credit before 12th August they'll effectively cost £5. The credit can be redeemed against any purchase in the future.

In February Game raised eyebrows when it guaranteed a £35 trade-in price for shooters Killzone 3 and Bulletstorm.

It meant you lost only £5 for 13 days of play.

I bought Dirt 3 (PS3) for £22.98 the other week in Game.

Do you need a receipt in order to get the mega-trade-in value?

Best trade-in in recent times was HMV doing £37 for Uncharted 2. Beat that CEX!

Imo hmv do the best on trade in. This sounds tempting as I'd rather rent than buy games

I very rarely trade in games, unless the game was absolute crap. I like to think they'll all be worth something in fifty years time :D

Please stop advertising these rip off merchants Eurogamer, they have been overcharging us for decades now.

Oh, and does it really only cost £5? Do I get my £35 back? No, it's locked up in store credit, meaning I might as well have paid full price and sold it for cash elsewhere, baring in mind everything instore looks like its been priced up by Stevie Wonder with a sticker gun.

Gamestation have a scheme were you can return a game for full credit if you return it 'unused' within 10 days of purchase.

Why neg MarkyHD? He speaks the truth. Its a great deal to get £35 trade BUT you're tied to Game with store credit, its not cash.

I don’t usually like to rag on Game or the second hand trade.

But I was browsing one of their stores in the other day. The used PS3 games were prominently displayed and spanned a full length of a double-sided shelf. The new copies, in contrast, were stuffed in the far corner of the shop on a shelf about a quarter of the size, half of which was dedicated to a “special offer” (all the display cases face forward)!

Want to save money on games? Buy them online!

@EddieMink Why is it twaddle? I sold all my Dreamcast and Saturn games when I was younger and that was one of the biggest regrets of my life. Not only were they fantastic games that I'll never see again, but some of them, like Panzer Dragoon Saga, are incredibly rare and worth quite a bit. Ditto for my Japanese games.

He seems to post the same link in every thread with no other input. If this were the Escapist he'd be banned.

    @Captain Jono

I suspect this is cos they're making more money on the pre-owned games :(

Err, hmv do this all the time...
  • Xboxfanuk #15 10 months ago

there is a company doing this, it's called Lovefilm.

I traded in LA noire at Gamestation a fortnight after release and got 40 quid for it which i thought was quite bizarre seeing as i paid 39.99 brand new.
  • abzddon #17 10 months ago

Meh... rather rent from LoveFilm. You effectively pay £40 for the game... not £35. You don't get your money back, just credit. Then, you can use that credit to buy another OVERPRICED game from Game.

Gamestation do 10day returns (or did at least), I still got a £4 voucher left in my room somewhere from 4 years ago! Why buy a game for £40+ when I can get it for less than £38 online, which will come release day or even earlier sometimes. and, you can buy from the comfort of your home? Cheaper, faster, and a better service.

Game is there to Rip people off. Tesco, sainsburys, and Asda may be the future for in store game sales, I think. If they decide to really take it on, instead of just release day deals. For example, right now, Tesco are selling LA Noire for £25. While dedicated game sites have got it for £35.
