Double Dragon II remake for XBLA

Wander of the Dragons out in September.

A remake of classic side-scrolling brawler Double Dragon II scraps its way onto Xbox Live Arcade this September.

As reported by Co-Optimus, the game is currently in development at Korean studio Barunson Interactive and will set you back 1200 Points.

Subtitled Wander of the Dragons, you can expect a new visual style, a modern combo system and a few extra special moves. See the gameplay footage below for a closer look.

Online play hasn't been confirmed but there will be a Vs. Mode and Survival Mode.

The original game arrived in arcades back in 1988 titled Double Dragon II: The Revenge, before later being ported to the NES, Sega Mega Drive and ZX Spectrum, among other systems.

This looks a bit depressing :-(

On the other hand, if you enjoy a bit of the ole Double Dragon style action, you'd not go far wrong getting Scott Pilgrim vs. the World game on the Xbox Live Marketplace/PSN -- possibly the best "game of the film" tie-in since Goldeneye on the N64 (or even Ghostbusters on the C64!)

Good God, that looks terrible! I'll take the NES version instead any day.

That is just the most vile trash i've ever had the misfortune to lay my eyes on, id sooner fork out my eyes lay them on a table and watch as i give myself an acid bath.

Totally ruined the magic in my stone cold heart that I had for the original game. What they need to do is confess to actually making a cheap nasty game not worth the money and advise people not to even contemplate looking at it let alone buy it.

    Rant over!

When will makers of 3D sidescroller remakes learn that you shouldn't be able to attack in eight directions? It should just be left and right. Final Fight Streetwise got it wrong, Turtles in Time remake got it wrong and now this.
Part of the stategy of these games was to throw enemies into each other who can only attack when in front or behind you meaning you're never actually surrounded. It may be more modern to allow eight direction fighting but what's the point if it's less fun? VS fighting games like Street Fighter 4 work using 2D rules so why not sidescrollers too?

for me its the soundtracks on these classic games as much as anything - the original DD XBLA game for me cocked the music up by trying to make it glitzy and completely spoiled it. I loved the DD2 soundtrack - please please dont arse about with it this time

Really sad when I'd rather play my NES version over this crap, it looks awful and as said above by others they've taken the awesome music and plain made it shite. reminds me of the way ubisoft ruined the SNES version of Turtles in Time with their reshelled crap.

Scot pilgrim is the game to get if you're a fan of double dragon.

This looks like an indie game. A shit indie game. Made by a cunt.

I can remember the home conversions of DDII being TERRIBLE!!!

This, however, I can't wait for. It'll probably also be crap, but I REALLY wish that Sega's Die Hard Arcade would reappear at some point.

This reminded me of it for a millisecond.

Next time improve the graphics, leave the gameplay as it was.

This should have been remade with HD 2d art not in 3D with 8-way combat. Where are the grab moves? If there is no knee to the face then its not DD. Actually just give us a HD version of Super Double Dragon on the SNES.

The new 3D graphical style is hideous. Cartoony sprites and clunky animations are paramount to beat'em-ups. Enemies should not be generic but extreme caricatures. You have to clean the streets from punks, pervs, negroes with un-PC big lips.. Hmm.. come to think of it, there's definite fascist subtexts in old beat'em-up games, or at least a bit of Reagan politics, but I guess that's why it is important that it is cartoony.

Stop development on this and please bring the original Double Dragon XBLA back so I can stop playing the demo that I cannot buy.
    Please, thank you.

Ryze - the NES version of DDII was fantastic. Apart from the slightly fiddly controls (the special moves could be hard to execute properly), the game played really well, and the music is legendary. It was just insanely hard. I had it for years and could never complete it. In fact, I may actually take up the challenge again one of these days - it's just one of those games I was supposed to conquer :)

The only thing that needs modernised in these games is their support for analogue sticks on modern controllers.
