BF3 pre-orders 10 times Bad Company 2

And SW:TOR breaks EA pre-order record.

Pre-orders of Battlefield 3 are ten times higher than those of Battlefield: Bad Company 2, EA has announced.

A line in its fiscal Q1 earnings report today also noted that forthcoming MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic had broken the publisher's all-time pre-order record.

As reported earlier today, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 has just hit nine million sales to date, boding well for DICE's forthcoming effort.

Battlefield 3 is out for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on 28th October, whereas The Old Republic is expected sometime before the end of the calendar year.

So if BF3 is ten times higher than BFBC2 and SWTOR is the record breaker for EA, how many more preorders does SWTOR have than BF3? :)

Not unexpected bad company 2 went down well once it was released but didnt have much hype

Building a new PC for this. Might as well do the game justice.

Ten times the fall! Seriously, all likelihood points towards this being a good military FPS but for goodness sake, I cant imagine for a second (happy to be proven wrong) this will be anything other than Bad Company with bells on. Nothing wrong with that I admit but I guarantee come late 2012 this game will long be forgotten.

It's star wars.it's bioware.it's bound to be good.but why is every comments thread on every gaming site filled with hate for this game? And honestly, as much as I love SW and bioware, I'm JUST NOT interested.weird.

    BF3 gonna rule.

and the ad is FINALLY GONE... or is it?

    @higgins78

    Late 2012?

Is that why players are still playing BFBC2 in huge numbers, not to mention BF2-an ancient game by gaming world standards.

If you were talking about COD I'd understand, as there's a new one every year, but BF games don't come along that often and when they do they're built to last.

BF2 is still unmatched on the PC for all out vehicle warfare and how many other FPS have even attempted the kind of destruction like a 4 year old BFBC1.

BF2 is still my all time favorite online FPS. I think i've tried almost everything that has come since and nothing has ever lived upto it imho. I know I played way to much of it but I was addicted. This is the reason I'll be building a new PC hopefully in time for October. Have high hopes for this one. If its just BF2 with an Engine upgrade then i'll be a happy man :)

"Join the Steam 'EA Origin Boycott' Group. Fight the power. We are small but hope to grow. We want BF3 on Steam.

Oh and we boycott Tom Senior as well."

Your boycott will probably do as well as the MW2 one...

@higgins78 Not to evangelize battlefield...well actually thats what I'm gonna do:) (epic longwinded word spewing below... sorry)

I've been following DICE for a long time and one thing they don't really do is put out new games that are just like their last game. Every major battlefield title is quite different from the one before. Sometimes to the point that fans of the last one get all pissed off. BF2 was a big leap in most ways from 1942. 2142 was different from BF2 in much more than its futuristic setting. Then Bad Company 1 came out and wasn't the best game ever but did some cool new things (and rightly pissed off the community depending on who you ask). The difference in BC1 and BC2 was huge. Sure on the surface its a military FPS. (same game modes, tweaks to the classes) but the the more subtle things are where the differences are, not to mention the major engine and handling improvements. If you look at the 'back of box' feature list, it seems like the same thing, but thats very deceptive in battlefield's case.

All that is beside the point of what I was really posting to say: Looking at the coverage of BF3 from the perspective of someone who played alot of BC2 and BF2 (like many others still do regularly) there are some big changes in basic mechanics, not to mention the graphics. And i got lucky enough to get into the Alpha test thats going on now and, I have to say, it is much much more than a minor upgrade of BC2. If you played them both back to back without knowing the titles of the games you might even think they were made by different dev teams. Thats just based on the rough alpha, and there are definite similarities (rush mode, 4 classes, big maps, etc). The weapon handling is much different and the basic movement is radically different than anything else in the series. Sort of BF2 meets BC2 with a dash of Mirrors Edge. Comparing it to those is sort of a disservice though because it really feels like more than the sum of those parts. If what I've played gets polished up right nice and the rest of the content is up to snuff, this is shaping up to be a really special title that could be around for a very long time.

    @higgins

I doubt that, at least on PC. There seems to be a strong push from DICE for the PC version and BF2 is still pretty damn popular today years later. Bring on the 64 player battlefields.

Gonna save my money and go for diablo 3 instead of swtor

"Not unexpected bad company 2 went down well once it was released but didnt have much hype"

Luckily EG are bending over backwards to rectify that this year
  • rudedudejude #14 10 months ago

I can't see it brining anything new to veterans of the series who have played BF2 and BC2 to death.

New maps, weapons, and items but I don't think it will fundamentally bring anything new to the game. A new engine and physics but no new gameplay elements.

In fact, gameplay elements will have actually been removed since BF2 if you count removal of the commander option.

For those new to BC2 this will be an awesome update, but for those of us who have been playing the BF series for years I don't think it will add much.

Oh I do apologise,l they are adding a deathmatch mode.

How about linked points Conquest game? Something you could get through mods for BF2 on the PC and featured as 'Onslaught mode' was it on the old Unreal? Could be worth a go but I don't think we'll see anything like that for BF3.

Publishers are obsessed with pre-orders. It's like BF3 is going to sell 10x more than BC2 because it is 10x more pre-ordered. And of course more and more people pre-order games with all these pre-order exclusive items and such.
  • username84 #16 10 months ago

Of course I'm going to pre-order it! I don't want to pay the same amount in a shop (sometimes a few quid more) and miss out on a quarter of the content. Oh and pay to get to the shops and back when I can get it delivered for free. This is the reason for the massive pre-order figures.

Not a fps but red faction guerilla had good destruction.
  • polaris70 #18 10 months ago

Yeah but I don't think Red Faction Guerilla had huge maps with 64 player servers. Correct me if I'm wrong.

    What's a SWTOR?
