Ultimate MVC3 in the works – report

Capcom to add 12 new fighters?

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 will debut at Comic Con in San Diego next weekend, according to insider sources.

An anonymous tipster for comic site The Quarter Bin claims that the title is an expanded version of this year's crossover brawler. There will be 12 new characters included, bringing the roster up to a total of 50 fighters.

The source doesn't reveal who those might be, but given that Frank West and Doctor Octopus files were spotted on the original disc, they seem likely inclusions.

The title will apparently be a similar release to Super Street Fighter IV, suggesting you can expect a budget price tag.

As spotted by Siliconera earlier this week, the listing for Capcom's Comic Con presentation in the show schedule adds further fuel to the fire.

"Fighting fans! Come to this panel to hear the fantastic news about this legendary fighting game franchise straight from producer Ryota Niitsuma," it reads.

The panel kicks off at 7.00pm UK time on Saturday 23rd June for those who wish to mark their diaries.

We've put in a request with Capcom for further comment and will update if it offers any clarification.

Sold! Haven't bought any of the DLC yet anyway because I am nowhere near finishing single player with all the characters. Will happily come back to this, especially for a budget price.

This is why I never buy fighting games by Capcom in their first incarnation. You just know they have something up their sleeves...

The online ruined this for me. Due to the nature of the gameplay even the slighest bit of lag can throw me off the timing for a combo. I'd rather be playing it in an arcade.

Pffft. It's already on the MvC3 disc. You will walk into Gamestation on the day and just hand you an unlock code after you pay your money.

If TRUE, they will DLC it and release on disk too.

Unless there is more to it and they've changed the gameplay by adding heaps of adjustments.

JeroenZM: Or the second, third, fourth.

I look forward to Super Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3: Turbo Special Championship Alpha EX Rainbow Edition.

I love the Marvel Vs franchise since Xmen Vs Street Fighter, but MvsC3 was bare bare bones compared to the likes of Mortal Kombat, and even Sf4 add more feature as well as characters.

I am really getting fucked off with Capcom, the game isn't even out 6 months yet and they are going to announce a new version!! I was stupid enough to by SFIV and the SSFIV, I'm not falling for this one again!!

Fool me once shame on me, fool me twice go fuck yourself!!

they screw the list of the first ones of this game... maybe we could get better ones now...

well... when I get bored of Mortal Kombat 9, maybe I'll get those DLC chars for MvC3.... not so soon, I might say

If they can fix the lag filled combat and have a fight viewer rather than two damn liscence plates bashing against each other like blind granny's going down a tesco's prune aisle then colour me interested.

This is getting fucking stupid. Just get a game right the first time then go make something else. It's this kind of lazy re-release garbage that flushed the genre down the toilet the last time.

They still haven't sorted out the spectator mode?

I'm glad I traded mine in instantly now, plus I got a couple of quid profit.

Won't be buying this, Capcom are quickly reverting back to form it seems and I can't support that.
  • varsas #16 10 months ago

There's no way I'm buying another one for at least a year when hopefully Capcom will stop bringing out updated versions.
  • taurus82 #17 10 months ago

What's the betting that Street Fighter X Tekken is going to be getting same treatment?
  • Alivada #18 10 months ago

So do I have to buy the game again?
  • BlitzwingHaz #19 10 months ago

Bah it does kind of irritate me this, but its what Capcom's always done.
I bought MVC3 on release but don't really play it, much prefer MK9

I love how people are surprised. Capcom does this with EVERY FIGHTING GAME IT HAS EVER RELEASED.

    X-Men: Children Of The Atom
    Marvel Super Heroes
    Cyberbots
    Pocket Fighter
    Star Gladiator
    Powerstone
    Tech Romancer

    Yep. Every single game.

If people want this con to continue happening then by all means buy the upcoming "ultimate" edition. If however you are tired an "updated" version of said game being released every 6 month then for goodness sake show some self-control. Will people please stop blaming the developers and start taking some responsibility...

If consumers don't like the developer's actions, then they are perfectly entitled to vent their frustration.

There are some arguments FOR Capcom's game updating philosophy. Their fighting games have communities of very devoted fans that will play that single game religiously, exploring all the depth the mechanics have to offer whilst building amazing fluency with the characters. The problem is these skills and knowledge are very specific and can't be enjoyed elsewhere, and as is natural for any video game it will eventually feel stale (though in comparison to other genres, fighting games tend to last much longer). Adding an update with balance changes, new moves and new characters gives life back to the game and gives dedicated players more room to apply their acquired talents. So for a devoted player these updates are excellent and just what they want. Unfortunately it'll just seem like shameless money grabbing for anyone else.

Of course DLC can offer the same benefits but their are some downsides to fracturing the same game like that. Specifically at tournament level. The preferred system is to release polished full updates slowly (like SFIV and Blaz Blue) over confusing micro updates (like MK9). I still believe Capcom charge a bit too much for their updates but at least they don't take the piss charging full standard game price.

Musta dmit I'm 50% pissed off and 50% excited.

As long as the chracters are worthy additions and they throw in 2-3 extra stages it will be worth the money.

But the other half of me thinks cant Capcom just wait till they have everything 100% and release it on one fucking disc instead of this drip feed milking all the fucking time.

Keep going RobotRocker! There's a full inch of Capcom's shaft you haven't quite taken yet!
  • Ryze #28 10 months ago

Fucking make it available as DLC!

I only just fucking bought the original.
