Two Worlds II: Velvet GOTY Edition

Treasures plus expansion for October.

A Velvet Game of the Year Edition has been announced for role-playing game Two Worlds II.

This seductive package will be released in October and wrapped in either black (PC/Mac) or red velvet (console). Real actual metal from the real world will feature on the corner of the stylish box and on an eye-catching Two Worlds II box logo.

A "huge" double-sided world map can be found inside the box, as can a "valuable" pirate head pin collectible that you can also find in-game. Attach it to armour boost your character's "parameters". Not sure if this works in real-life.

The goodies continue with an extra bonus disc that features artwork, wallpaper, videos, an extended soundtrack and two extra PVP multiplayer maps.

More to the point, the Velvet GOTY Edition comes with the September-bound Pirates of the Flying Fortress expansion, which fixes nearly as much scurvy content as it adds.

The GOTY Edition also contains a multi-lingual and up-to-date patched version of the Two Worlds II game.

Two Worlds II was eventually released in the UK in March and on the same day as Dragon Age II. It may have lacked the big-budget glamour of its fantasy RPG rival, but tucked away inside Two Worlds II were refreshingly innovative and brave ideas.

Eurogamer's Two Worlds II review awarded 7/10.

"There is real innovation here," wrote reviewer Al Bickham, "and there are some ballsy forays into game-styles that are way outside the standard tick-list of features for the genre, both online and off. There's also a great deal of absorbing content to enjoy, not to mention consistent, meaningful progression, creative quests, and empowering customisation systems that let you craft your own rewards form a plethora of resources.

"If you can live with the lo-fi elements," he added, "there's an awful lot to enjoy."

"Game of the Year" edition? Really?
  • glottis0 #2 11 months ago

"Some guys on a forum kinda liked it" edition sounds a bit less marketable, I suppose.

Should be 'GONY' - 'Game of NAEBODY'S Year'

  • Bertie Verified Senior Staff Writer, Eurogamer.net #7 11 months ago

Ah yes they do - it's our viewer that doesn't. Apologies, there's nothing I can do about that.
  • MattEdWithCheese #8 11 months ago

so... did the original version actually get released here?
  • riceNpea #9 11 months ago

    October? good luck with that.
  • Dave_McCoy #10 11 months ago

Agreed regarding GOTY editions. Just call it the Full Fat Version or Game wi' nowt taken owt Edition.
  • Tyronne #11 11 months ago

Picked up the vanilla version of this during the steam sale and its not that bad.
  • Darren #12 11 months ago

Controversial I know but I enjoyed Two Worlds II on the PC far more than I did the dreary and repetitive Dragon Age II, which for me is this year's biggest disappointment after the brilliant Origins. Two Worlds II must hold the title of "most improved sequel" because first game really was absolute shite, especially on the Xbox 360 which could barely run the thing!
  • Seehuusen #13 11 months ago

Complete Edition works fine....GOTY is basicly to rob people that think it was actually awarded a GOTY award.
  • Arsecake_Baker #14 11 months ago

Imported it aeons ago and sadly the 360 version is a buggy nightmare with one of the floatiest combat mechanics i have ever come across, alas it still hasn't been patched and that's a shame.

RPG's on console are becoming a bit of a misnomer.
  • God_Octo #15 11 months ago

But will it ever actually get here? I think that's the biggest problem with the game.
  • gribb #16 11 months ago

    GOTY doesn't mean anything anymore
  • AaronTurner #17 11 months ago

Man I got this game in the Steam sale but it's pretty awful. I'm about an hour in but it looks terrible and the combat is crazy bad, block as the same button as sprint? What could go wrong?

    Too close to Skyrim
  • Tryhard #19 11 months ago

What a release debacle TWII was.And they want us to buy this.Hahahahaha
  • addugg #20 11 months ago

Released here in October, then November, then December, then Amazon.
  • TRUTH #21 11 months ago

Yes Skyrim will probably be great!, .but, lets not forget the other Rpg's that should also be on you list if into RPG and give some space to them:

    Dragon Dogma
    The Witcher 2
Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning (Designed by open-world RPG legend Ken Rolston).

All coming to PS3/Xbox360 and all looking fine AAA titles - just hope people don't let the hype of Skyrim forget other worthy title Rpg's coming too!

Will we get to see this in the uk. I have never seen a copy since it was released !
  • Triggerhappytel #23 11 months ago

Was it voted GotY by those silly bastards at Topware, perchance?!
  • Chazmeister #24 11 months ago

You can only get it in the UK for the 360 on Amazon direct from the publishers for some odd reason.

I got a copy because it had boats in it. I thought wow at last an RPG where you can go sailing off and questing to distant islands. Sadly there's very little reason to use the boat what so ever.

The horse riding, whilst improved over the last game, now lacks mounted combat. The horses are only good for getting about. Also there's only one area you can use the horses in, which is about half of the largest single player island. Everywhere else it's on foot.

It's not a bad game, it's just very dull. Some really tedious dialogue full of pregnant pauses makes every conversation a test of your patience. All the quests are varients on fetch quests or go there and kill X, it's really uninspired stuff. Playing as a fighter, once you have your character up to a reasonable level with some improved kit, then combat is just button mashing and you'll walk over everything without a problem.

It's better than Gothic 4, but only just.

See Divinity 2: The Dragon Knight Saga for a really good RPG. Probably one of the best I've played for years. Fantastic pacy witty dialogue, and a superb variety of quests with nary a single fetch quest among them.

    Besides which, DA2 sucked.

  • TRUTH #26 11 months ago

TW2 actually had some quite funny dry- humour conversions and comments. If the game had another year of polishing and less repetitive quests - it would have been a better then average game!

Divinity 2: The Dragon Knight Saga - I really enjoyed this game too! Wasn't expecting much, but, enjoyed the good old and solid style rpg/adventure game. Enjoyed this game more then DA2, Fable III, TW 2 (which had potential but started to drag so lost interest and sold it).

Also enjoying Sacred 2 more the Torchlight.

You guys are making really curious about the Dragon Knight Saga, but I played Divinity 2: Fallen Angel a couple of years ago and it did nothing for me. How does Dragon Knight Saga compare with Fallen Angel? Similar game but with new content? Much improved or more of the same?
  • cowell #28 11 months ago

You could have the best game of all time, supplied on disks carved from rare diamonds , but if your distribution is a shambles then nobody can buy it
  • FortysixterUK #29 11 months ago

I liked TW2. But are they really going to release it a month before the biggest RPG of the year is launched ?
Oh well..as long as its only £29.99....lol....I wish....that'll be £69.99 please sir !
  • SirDespard #30 11 months ago

@darc Fallen angel was Sacred 2, nothing to do with Divinity, although I enjoyed both.
  • TRUTH #31 11 months ago

    Dragon Dogma
    The Witcher 2
Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning (Designed by open-world RPG legend Ken Rolston).

These rpg's should be on all Rpg'ers radar - personally I think Skyrim (while am excited about it!) is getting to much attention and taking away interest from the above games. Check the reviews for The Witcher 2 (on PC), and the video gameplay of Capcom's awesome looking - Dragon's Dogma, and also, Ken Rolston(designer of Morrowind and Oblivion) - Kingdoms Of Amular: Reckoning (His credits include games and supplements for Paranoia, RuneQuest, Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, AD&D, D&D.[1][2][3][4], plus computer/consoles games: Morrowind and Oblivion)

But will it release in the UK?
  • Lancezh #33 11 months ago

I'm still flabbergastes how anyone with a brain could give this game more than 6 points, last time i listened blindfolded to reviews...
  • sourc0r #34 11 months ago

'most average' game of the year perhaps. honestly, i'd rather wrap that shit in a dirty potato bag filled with muck.

oh well, that was kinda harsh, but definitely more appropriate.
  • digitalash #35 11 months ago

How about 54th Best Game of the Year edition?
  • Xboxfanuk #36 11 months ago

Does this mean it will be available through someone other then Amazon in the UK this time?
  • TheBusterMan #37 11 months ago

Never seen TW2 in an actual, factual shop.Could you only export it or get it on Amazon?
  • james-mw3-mw3 #38 11 months ago

Well if you haven't bought the game yet, DO IT! The combat takes a little while to master, but it's fun after that :)
  • outy #39 11 months ago

    TW2 is an underrated gem.
